Congrats Burt. I'm up to about 140 on the year

TA is going to have to do a solo run in the Bay St. Louis Replacement Beer Run sponsored by Lysol, Clorox Disinfectant Wipes, 3M and Waitr. I'll be cheering for him.

Can confirm.

5k today, then followed with 8k, 10k and 15k probably every other day. I'll plug in a 13.1 in 4 weeks.

Let me see your schedule.

Today: 5k 24:55 (8.04/mile) Strava and Apple differed a little, and both showed me .02 or .01 short of the certified 5k course I ran. (I just checked through my old runs and this was a PR by 11 seconds if the distance would have registered correctly.)

Friday: 8k
Sunday: 10k
Tuesday or Wednesday: 15k
Month out (maybe less if I’m feeling it): 13.1

I haven’t planned after the first benchmarks, but I’ll expect it to be at least 4 days/week if not 5 through at least 4/15 since the gym is shut down. I may make one day a body weight/dumbbell cross train day. I’ll post my scheduled runs after the benchmarks. I need to see where I am before figuring out where I’m going.

Very nice DownSouthJukin!

I've been getting data from matched runs on Strava from last year and I'm confident I'm within striking distance of being back on track around May and making progress soon after.

More importantly, I'll be ready for week #1 of the Marine Corps Marathon plan.

If I had to give anyone advice with being sidelined/hurt --> find a knowledgeable Physician/DO/PA that runs , do exactly as they stay, keep weight down/lose some, start cardio & stretching as soon as you can, run when ready as best as you can, take as much time as needed..it really will come back.

Thanks y’all.

8k 43:01/8:36 (Strava)
5.07 mi 42:51/8:27 (Apple, Strava and Training Peaks)

Not sure how Strava’s 8k has me 10 seconds over my total time running per my Apple Watch.

Wet pavement. Not great, but a PR.

TA-let us know how it goes tomorrow.

Very nice baw.

I will let you know. Still haven't decided on my route. I can run 4 three-mile routes, 3 four-miles, or 2 six-miles (and an extra 1.1). I think the three-mile route is the fastest. It also has the least turns (it's just a big rectangle).

I haven't run since Monday. I feel like a bum. I hope I'm not slow AF.

Legs well-rested. You’ll probably surprise yourself.

Let us know when you’re done and I’ll drink a long social distance beer for you.

Half marathon in 1:55:12! 8:48/mile pace!

LFG LFG LFG LFG LFG LFG LFG

Thanks to all of y'all who helped me do this thang, especially Burt and Jukin.

As for the run, the first four miles were pretty easy. I tried to pace myself but still ran pretty quickly. I ran the first four in under 32 minutes. Miles 5 - 8 were okay too. I slowed some, but not a tremendous amount. The the last 4 - 5 miles were tough. I slowed down a good bit at about mile 10. With that said, after mile 7, I was consistently about 3 - 4 minutes ahead of pace at each mile marker.

Congratulations! I think you'll find this to be a very exciting part of your training. Now that you've broken through one plateau, your next set of goals will be even more exciting to reach. Watch out now, you might want to start to run even more.

Awesome! That’s great! 2 hours was nothing to you.

The first 13.1 is a big milestone. I think I signed up for like 5 races the day after that.

Here’s to you:

I’d love me a SoPro about now. They’ve started curbside beer service... can’t say I’m not going to take advantage of this special one night this week if it’s still going on:

I have to admit, today sucked. 40 degrees, 15-20mph wind and rain the entire time. Hope y'all get a better one in than me, baws.

It had been in the 60s until yesterday. This seems to be the last stand of shitty weather. Normally I thrive in this shite but the wind was getting to me today. Straight pissing me off.

Shitty run today. Too much beer and ribs yesterday. Ran 4 then did sprints for 1.5.

Gonna start bodyweight training today since I can’t go to the gym.

Figured I’d keep it simple and do 100 pushups and 15 chinups daily for a week or two and then go from there. Not sure what to do regarding running. I am taking it easy on the legs this week. Gonna go for a few easy jogs but nothing too strenuous.

I’m formulating a 12-week base training program. At the end of the 12 weeks, I want to be in fighting shape for marathon training beginning in July. Let me know what y’all think.

For strength, I think I’m gonna do simple circuit training on Monday - Friday and just add one rep every week or so. Probably look like this:

20 rounds (for time)
5-10 pushups
1-4 chinups
5-10 air squats

My running schedule for the next 12 weeks will be simple.
Monday - 3 - 5 miles
Tuesday - 2 - 4.4 miles for time (focus on being faster and sprinting)
Wednesday - 3 miles
Saturday - 5 - 10 miles

Should I try and do some Fartleks, tempo runs, etc?

Burt and others would know more... but I always try to mix in 400 and 800 meter sprints in when I've wanted to increase speed. I don't have a formula for it (though I should). Like yesterday-I wasn't feeling my run, so I shut it down at 4 miles and did 400 +/- meter sprints for 1.5 miles.

I've always tried to make at least one mid-distance run (6+/- miles) a tempo run each week. I've never really done fartleks, but with me basically starting over right now, I may. Anything is on the table. Someone recommended a book in this thread a little bit ago-I think it was called Run Faster (I might be wrong). I might would also look at that.

In any event, I know I also need to throw in a day of sprints and speed work in my next training phase.
