it's happened on occasion, but probably 360 days of the year i'm awake and out the door for a run or gym an hour before she wakes up. sometimes she throws something at me when i forget to get my stuff ready and am banging around. i call that foreplay.

Heat definitely is counterproductive, imo. One reason why working out in SoCal is nice

If was your wife, I would constantly try to scare the shite out of you from a hard sleep. Kind of like those goats that faint when they get to excited. Just watch you jump out of bed, then fall onto the floor

3.5 easy miles on the plan today. Decided to do a HR/threshold based workout today. Goal was to keep my HR <160-164, which data tells me is my lactate threshold. Had some cloud cover during the first couple of miles and then the sun came beaming out. Man, that direct sunlight really drives my HR up. Had to slow up a good bit to keep it in check.
.25 warm up
1 - 9:35
1 - 9:39
1 - 10:26
.5 - 10:36
.25 cool down
Goal was to stay aerobic throughout, which I did, but man these 10+ minute miles are tough. My VDOT chart gives easy mile pace as 10:00-10:35, so I was in line with that and HR target.
Gonna take the planned rest day tomorrow. Legs feel heavy, 10 miles of good training the last few days as well as gym work/yoga.

7.6 medium long run. Hamstring is still tight from a half marathon tempo a week ago.
1. 8:00
2. 7:44
3. 7:32
4. 7:12
5. 6:55
6. 7:13
7. 7:04
.62. 6:29
Windy as hell but it was a good one.

3 miles today, tomorrow is my rest day. My splits were:
9:14
9:14
9:14
I think I need to start my runs early in the morning, as I am hitting more traffic (and lights) which slows me down.

Where do you run Burt?

Mostly Benton county. I might do a race or two in Washington county this year though. You?

I live by Lake Fayetteville so around there and the Razorback greenway. Trail system in NWA is top notch.
Did run the Bentonville 1/2 this past year (in the snow). May sign up again this year

That’s a good one I hear. The Bentonville race series is legit. I’ll never win any races; I just have to beat the clock.
30-39 age group isn’t fricking around.

3 miles this morning. Recovery pace @ 9:00. Was supposed to do 5, but allowing legs to rest a little with a 10k race coming tomorrow morning.
Speaking of which... my training plan calls for 12 miles tomorrow. Should I let the effort of racing 6.2 be enough, or go back out in the afternoon evening to get my other 6?

I don't know if I would do a full 6, but a shorter, like 3 mile shake out on tired legs would probably be beneficial and meet your goals

Had temps in the high 60s this morning and a nice breeze for my 4 miles. Best weather in a few weeks.
14 miles on the plan for Sunday

@ Bo
Salmon’s advice is solid. You could also sandwich the 10k between 1.5/2-1 warmup/cooldown to get the junk out.
@ Ho
Sunday funday morning LSD will be about 11-12 due to it being race week. Wanna keep it above 7:30mi but I’ll take what my body will give me.

I was leaning towards a combination of these. Maybe a mile easy warm-up before the race and then a short (3 miles or so) slow loop on trails in the evening.

I'll definitely be following. I think Walmsley is the best chance of an American beating Kilian, but I don't know if he is ready just yet. Kilian is just such a goddamn beast. Also don't sleep on Zach Miller. Dude just runs ball to the wall in every race.
Walmsley/Miller out in front early.

3 Americans (Walmsley, Miller, and Tollefson) and Kilian in the lead group.
It’s super early, but that is certainly new, as the Europeans have traditionally dominated at UTMB.

Rough, rainy night on the UTMB course.
All out. Damn, tough going.

Yep. Not even sure an American is going to finish in the top 10. Damn.
