That's another topic worthy of discussion.
Amazingly how terrible workout clothes can get if you don't allow them to dry as quickly as possible before washing.

I use a flip belt and it works fine. It was my wife's so I never really looked at any other options. You really don't notice it and it keeps everything close to your body (no bouncing). Not the easiest to pull things out of when on the move would be my only complaint.

14 miles / 8:45

Ran with a group in Auburn this morning. Plains my arse... nothing flat for the entire run.

10k. 10:30 pace.... in pure mud.

Was kinda sucky to slip and slide and had to clean my shoes off a ton but it was a lot of fun. I’m tempted to look for mud shoes after today.

Reminds me of the one and only trail race my wife has ever done with me.

It was a 5 miler and it had just rained. It also had about 10 creek crossings. It was also 23 degrees...

The lead pack was breaking ice. I ate it multiple times. We were covered in mud by the end.

That was a fun race.

I love my Saucony Peregrine 7's. Good durability and not too heavy. They are very stiff, so I try to avoid the concrete when running in them. The 8's are much more flexible so maybe on concrete wouldn't be so brutal. This will not be a concern for most people, but for me, I'm a mile away from my "trail".

I run a lot obstacle course races. Salamon Speedcross IVs are great on muddy trails.

Another tough run for me. I’m hoping I’m not the one in the thread that ends up saying maybe next year.

6.5 miles. Wanted to do 9 but was dead on my feet after being up and down with the baby last night.

13 mile week. Next week is scheduled for 23 and I’m going to get it.

Stay with it. Motivation can be a bitch sometimes. This is one of the main reasons I like group runs on my long run days.

Stay the course man. Bad days happen during any type of training. Use it as motivation. Take it day by day.

Per the plan, no running today. Cross Training only; hit 30 mins of machine rowing followed by Yoga/stretching.

Long run of the week tomorrow, 4 miles. Working tonight, so will have to try to play the mid day/afternoon clouds right. Would have been nice to run today in the BR area. Cloud cover most of the day with a few showers here and there.

It really was a great day to run. Overcast almost the whole day, strong breeze, some light showers here and there. It was really nice

10 miles this morning/8:30 pace. I looked like a drowned rat afterward. A little faster than I wanted - I think my running buddy was trying to kill me. Hoping to get another 8 easy tomorrow morning for 35 this week.

Another friend was out there with a different crew and they finished when we did and we talked about mud shoes. He was a Speedcross guy forever but their whole crew are “altra ambassadors” (whatever. Some of them are kinda dicks, but I like this one dude) and he was wearing the long claw or something made for mud. They looked a lot better at the end of the run than mine did.

My ASICS are fine. They’re stiff and are good for long non climb runs but I think I’m going to need to up my game come trail season.

At what point does splitting up/taking breaks during a long run nullify the run's status as a "long run"?

For example, there's a half marathon scheduled on the day of my 20 mile run. I was thinking about running 3 miles as a warm up, running the half, and then running 4 miles to finish the 20 mile run.

Does that still count? What if there's a 10 minute break between the runs? What about 20? 30?

I know I’ve read before that you can break it up and your body will still get benefits from the total fail distance

I think there is likely to be some diminishing returns after your heart rate returns to baseline though
