I did the opposite. Church then a huge brunch then a couple of 1k sprints waiting to pick up my kid from church.

Tasted my omelet on the last sprint and honestly one of the first times I’ve been completely out of breath in a long time.

12th overall. Apparently they don’t publish/announce age group winners for a while so we will see, hopefully got top 3 but it’s a tough category.

Did 5k this morning to try and get my pace cadence down. Gonna run one more time this week, then my first half marathon on Saturday.

Good luck! Just take it easy during the race if you can...make it to the finish line!

Burt, did a 67 YO female really finish 4th in your 10K yesterday, or is there something fishy there? Maybe they registered for 10K and ran the 5K?

No. Her and the other chick definitely switched from the 10K to the 5 without telling officials. Ali Rush @ 3rd is legit though.

They weren't shitty about it, neither were at the award ceremony.

Good race today. You have the wind we had today? Or just the precipitation?

I knew Ali was legit, she’s fast

It was a little windy at times, only really had to run against a stiff wind once that really stood out to me. My shirt was heavy from the rain/sleet but I did warm up a couple miles in. Feeling pretty good for sub 3 hours in May!

Edit: results are up online now. I got 2nd in my age group. First was a former collegiate runner so don’t feel too bad there.

I ran a 6:21 pace for the first 10K and finished with a 6:21 overall, so happy with the consistency and not falling off the back half.

Crushed it. That's awesome.

I spent my entire weekend doing 12U softball in the cold wet weather. I got a 1 hour spin in.

Here's to hoping I can get 9 mile run in tomorrow.

When are you, BRM, and PHB going to take a trip down here? This is an LSU board. Burden is on you guys to make the effort.

Very. I assume the same in BR? How is it that no matter what route you run, there always seems to be a headwind, and no tailwind? I ran and out and back route today with wind in my face the entire time. Like a cruel joke.

Yep, I know the feeling. Dealt with the same shite today. Either a head wind or cross wind that damn near knocked me over. Never a tail wind.

At this point, I just suggest putting in the miles. I'd try to run 5x a week. Just get in the miles. That's only 4 weeks. 20 runs, make them count.

Advice well received. I improved my pace from 11:15 to 10:33, which I'm very pleased with considering my lack of prep.

Just found out a running acquaintance of mine ran LR with y’all. He forgot his shoes and ran in Wal Mart Avias. Said he was hurting pretty badly after.

What kind of tips do you vets have to prevent nipple chaffing? My last few runs have been causing some. I prefer not to run shirtless (especially for my half Saturday) due to my larger abdominal dimensions. Just lube up the chest with astroglyde, or something else? Gonna be running in an UA tanktop.

Bandaids on the nips or astroglide. Or wear a tight top underneath.

Not to metrosexual the place up but I normally shave my chest because of unruly pube chest hair. I’ve let it grow out this winter and have had 0 chaffing problems.

On race note... Just got a kick in the nads. My uncle passed away in Odessa. I’ve skipped all my uncles funerals because they were racist old assholes that I refused to bring my kids around and I purposely haven’t seen them in 13+ years. Continuing that theme, I’m not taking my family to the funeral but I can’t miss another one. So I have to drive to Odessa Wednesday night, drive back Thursday, pick up my family and drive back to San Angelo Friday for a race Saturday morning.

Totally effs with my weeks plans for taper and I’m going to spend 10+ hours in the car 48 hours before the race.

Just venting to my brethren. Obviously a funeral is more important than a stupid race.
