5k and 10ks I’m not going to change to much on. Maybe low intensity the day or two before.

Half or more needs a day or two off beforehand. I’m about to have 3 or 4 ramp up days over the weekend and a light mid to end of the week for my half. Going to be interesting because I’ve never really tapered much.

It was cold not bad though. Hair standing on end and nips hard as rocks.

Looks like it may be around 40 degrees, slightly windy, 50/50 right now on rain but I’m sure it’ll rain some at least. Planning on shorts, T-shirt and gloves...should be enough

40 degrees is the hardest temp. I’m going to be miserable for 2 miles if I wear just a T-shirt but after about mile 5 I’ll regret a jacket and probably a long sleeve. Looking at 45 degrees next week for my race but it’s west Texas. It will be a different weather prediction by then.

Burt killed it again today. 36 minute 10k. Probably a 37 minute since it looks like the course was a little short.

Got 10 on wet trails today. Not fast at all but I just wanted to get some rain running in.

Felt pretty great except for the fact I shat my pepperoni and jalapeño pizza 4 times this morning before 7:15 AM. 3 on the trail. Unlike other times, I brought napkins. Probably cost myself a minute pace because of walking post poop.

Also I apparently have neglected cutting toenails and one of them rubbed a blister on his neighbor. Hope that heals up before next Saturday.

Great advice and support from everyone on here for my half today @ The Woodlands. Here is a brief recap.

2:12:36, 4 minutes faster than November, 25 minutes faster than September.

Pros - So new to running , I enjoy it , no pain or injuries from race or training , years to get better , much to learn, great group here & on Strava. Have till August to build some endurance.

Opportunities- Too heavy/soft (186 @ 6 foot ), pace dropped dramatically at mile 8 & heart rate spiked to highest point, started to feel like I was in quicksand , form broke down, had to walk, and broke mentally ( thinking only of next mile marker ) .

Nice PR. If we can build up your weekly mileage no reason you can’t maintain that pace the whole way and get faster

Great job dude! Excellent improvement. Enjoy yourself now. I’m looking at that race as my first Full next year. My in laws live in Spring.

First, no shame. Great job man.

Second. Did you refuel at all? Gels?chews? I’m no long distance guy by any means but I do know after about 5-6 miles on long runs I need to refuel to prepare for that wall around mile 8. Gels have been my best bet as of late.

Speaking of gels, local running store just started selling Maurten. Gonna pick some up this week and try on my next long run.

3nOut,

I used Maurten gels as recommended + water. I just think , although I followed an online plan, it was not enough mileage to prepare me for a faster pace than normal.

This might sound odd to the good runners here but when I got tired I felt like I was not propelling forward. I almost felt like I was bouncing up & down versus moving forward. No drive.

My garmin data shows at that point it was a death spiral with a higher heart rate needed to run slower.

As recommended earlier , since I'm healthy enough to take it I need to cumulatively add more miles to each run , week, and month.

Got a couple of dudes doing a half this morning. Gonna be a couple of PRs.

Yesterday's course was short, but it wasn't as short as my Garmin made it out to be. Some folks in my feed came up 6.22 some came up 6.17. Mine was 6.05. I google mapped it and it looks like 6.16.

@ 6.16, that'd put me about 5:55 per mile. If this holds, I'm on schedule for my half at the end of the month.

Got a good long recovery run this morning. Good luck HB and PHB! Make us proud!

HB smashed. Sub 1:30.

PHB did awesome for a non Arkansasian nut-dragging mortal, coming in under 1:40

Fantastic job mates.

I’m just trying to go sub 2:10 next weekend. rain and 20 mph winds expected.

On trails.

I tried to get out this morning for an easy 8 or 10 but this cold, windy rain forced me back inside quickly.

Oh well. Had to settle for a 2,000 calorie brunch with the family instead. Darn.

Got in an 80 minute long run, on and off rain, Port A Potty break at 4 miles and now for brunch!

And yeah, the boys did some bangin’ in Little Rock today!

Wasn’t sure how it would go with the weather but ended up alright. Definitely smashed my time goal.
