I think the watch bases it off of pace and HR, and it always seems to update around the 3/4 mile mark for me. All my runs pretty much start off downhill for the first mile, so if I’m right it’s probably over estimated for me based on that

There’s calculators that do it. Unless coming from a professional, I’d take it with a grain of salt.

Your vO2 is higher than mine. (55) I’m consistently sub 19 for a 5k. The calculator says I should be low 18s; I may be.

My watch actually has me lie down and relax to take my VO2. Not sure how that actually works but yeah, I ain’t buying it obviously. Hopefully I don’t rip the damn mask out of the treadmill in the middle of the test like last time. fricka treadmill.

Could definitely be this and/or you have more than a fair amount of talent. Your 3:30 1st attempt Full and 5K time on (relatively) low weekly mileage (if I recall correctly) are pretty impressive. As far as the mental aspect that book “Endure” that I’m reading draws good points for both LT and mental aspects of training/racing. Interesting thus far, I’m about 1/2 way done.

Not sure I am reading that right, did you put in 24 miles today?

If so, what distance is your race and how far away is it?

Is the goal to just get your body used to being on your feet/in motion for a certain time?

Congrats on the distance and time.

I wish I could run that far

Nah I just got lazy and didn’t type out minutes. Just got back into running trying to do the CCC in around an hour

ETA:
Week 6 Day 2 complete

Run 10 minutes
Walk 3
Run 10

2.23 miles and a jog pace of 9:50

Tonight run was 3 miles @8:06 pace. It really helps to have cool weather and fast people to pace you.

It is getting easier, once I get about 3-4 minutes in it gets kinda effortless

It’s hard to explain but it’s like I have a rhythm and my breathing is all in sync

Any tips for maximizing phone battery life while using Strava?

It looks like my phone is maxing out around 4.5 hours if using Strava and podcast player at same time. I haven't hit that red line yet but will likely approach it on my long runs over the next 3 weeks and then my 50k with an anticipated time of around 6-8 hours (I am more of a jogger than a runner).

Does Strava work in airplane mode?

I can go without music/podcasts if necessary.

Or is this where I would join the big boys and buy a watch?

I’d say so. Actually I didn’t even realize you could use Strava without one.

Got an 8k this Saturday that I don’t really want to do. Would like to get under 30 minutes but I don’t think it’s realistic at this point in my new year’s training.

Are there any watches or wrist devices that somehow alert you of your immediate previous mile? I don't know how to effectively word it, but in my mind I'm thinking of an an alert like a short buzz and display the pace of the last completed mile while on a run.

My FitBit will display current pace and average pace in real time, but I want to know my last completed mile pace as well.

My old Garmin will alert you and give the pace of every mile.

I'm sure the newer ones will do the same.

My 735xt does. Think all Garmins do.

Pretty sure all Garmins do as well, the ones I’ve had do.

I almost didn’t run today, but I forced myself out the door. Got it in, albeit with no energy at all.
