Dang Burt got some long strides?

I guess I do. Lol.
The cadance thing came from Jack Daniels observing that elites all ran over 180 steps per minute. Well Duh.
I’d imagine if I was running sub 4:30 min miles, I would be over 180 too.
I’m not trying to attack or detract from the sentiment of the conversation, just my 2 cents which doesn’t mean a whole lot.

After a long and calorie-filled December I'm back on the wagon. I,be logged 17 total mes since Saturday and 11 for the new year. Today's pace was 8:54, which was my first run in the sub-9's since the first week in December. Don't know if I could have kept a sub-9 total pace for a fifth mile.
Currently I am signed up for a 10k in April and seriously considering a 15k in a couple of weeks. It won't be my best time but I think it will help with motivation.

It’s effing cold.
And day 5 of no tobacco makes me want to choke a puppy.

Stay strong. The first couple of weeks are awful. A few weeks after that, you’ll wonder why you ever did it. Also, your run times and overall fitness should start to improve.

Fantabulous weather in store for South La today into the weekend. Can’t wait to lace em up. #soon.

I'm kicking off my 2019 goals with a sore lower back
. Pulled it playing golf 2 weeks ago, then it got worse when I tried to run the next day... Stayed off it for 2 weeks until I finally tried running a slower-paced 2 miles the other day. Back held up fine. I want to try to pick up the pace and mileage this weekend, but I also don't want to re-injure myself. Other than time and stretching, anything else you can do to help a sore lower back?

It was just snus packets so I don’t expect much change there. I’ve never smoked and kicked Copenhagen 2 years ago. Today was my first decent length run since quitting and I was miserable the entire time. Coughing and dry mouth. Legs were dead after 3 miles which is fairly unheard of.
Hoping it’s just some sinus stuff and not withdrawal.
I’m going through the irritable oral fixation phase right now. I’m honestly thinking cold turkey wasn’t the best move.

My wife deals with a lot of lower back and sciatica issues. Unfortunately my answer is medicate and stretch based on her experiences.

Probably some withdrawal.
That’s the drug talking right there.

You shut your whore mouth. You don’t know me.
(He didn’t mean it, baby)
I joke.. but.
My wife and I actually got in a fight over it because I mentioned I had stopped and was dealing with the irritation and she was all “you just now stopped? I thought you stopped months ago!!”
No. I just stopped doing it around you months ago because I’m embarrassed.
That’s when the fight started.

That sucks. Trying to hide it from everyone was the worst and what’s funny is I’m sure everyone still knew.
At least you got that out of the way. I hope you kicked it for good now. Like I’ve said before, the hard part is relearning how to do the things you enjoy without it. Once you figure that out, you’ll never look back.

Got in 8.5 today in some pretty stout wind. Sunshine other than that, for a welcome change.
7 were @ HMGP: 7:54, 7:57, 8:00, 7:52, 7:59, 8:02, 7:45
Felt really good other than I lost HR indication around mile 5, which is the 2nd time this has happened in a few weeks. May have to look at ditching the Polar after less than a year because of it. Sucks, as new electronics tend to give me anxiety.

Appreciate it. Seriously.
Hopefully I’ll come out a better runner from it.
I’ll have more discretionary money at a minimum and taking a few seconds of would be nice as a bonus.
Healthier eating has started as well

My friend gave me a Garmin HR strap but I can’t get it connected to my forerunner. Need to tinker with it some. I’ve never given that much of a care till now.

Got in 4.5 miles at 8,000 feet today, that felt rough and was slow for me! Added some pics on the Strava run if anyone wants to check em!

Saw that! What ski town are you in?

Skiing in Winter Park, CO and staying in Fraser just a tad down the road

Turn Bluetooth on via Settings > Bluetooth > Status > On
then
Settings > Sensors > Add Sensor > Heart Rate Monitor
Disclaimer: I have an older model Garmin and this may only work for the 220.
Good luck.
