i don't know that cadence is something you can (or should) try to change. anything under 160 and you're overstriding i think.
your legs are what your legs are. i'm a 175-180 averager but i am 5'10 and a heel striker with a normal pronation.
that's a fairly normal runner with a "normal" cadence.
a friend of mine is 6'5 and he's more like a 165-170 and is faster than me naturally at cruising speeds. now i can beat him for top speed and cadence over a sprint, but he's going to win out on anything over a 400m usually.
i would guess your best bet is to try to measure your cadence on a treadmill, see what gets you up to 180 and then emulate that on a few test runs. also, there are playlists on spotify that match cadences.

Curious what mine is. I feel like there’s variability
I feel like I would have low vertical oscillation but no way that I know to measure that

Monday 4.25
Wednesday 5.75
Thursday 3.01
Sunday 8.55
Total 21.56
Will probably run similar distance this week, with a slightly longer "long run" if I'm up for it.

Regarding WDW, what resort are you staying at and how many days are you staying after the marathon?
We are DVC members but we are getting a regular room at Port Orleans French Quarter this time. We are going Wednesday and leaving Monday. Mid Day flight on Monday so not heading to Epcot. I will probably celebrate at Epcot Sunday night if I am still walking.
My father in in law and sister in law are running the marathon but not Dopey. Our kids are coming with the in laws on Friday. Should be fun. They have not been to a marathon weekend yet.

Most of my half marathon runs around the house result from realizing I'm feeling pretty good, pressing forward a few more miles, and then realizing I'm 6+ miles from the house. It's sort of intentional and sort of tricking myself subconsciously.
Pretty much what happened to me. Darted out of my neighborhood and off of my normal route without even thinking about it. Cruised around some nearby neighborhoods and by the time I swung back around to mine I was ~7 miles in. Figured 6 more miles was 2 more of my normal 3 mile laps, so figured what the hell. Weather was decent and sun was popping in and out, but not yet oppresive.
Only bad part is I had no fuel/minimal water. Had a 16 oz bottle at the end of my driveway and had a drink at 7 and 10. Only oatmeal, blueberries and coffee/water beforehand.

Apparently I am severely overstriding then. Watch said I averaged around 80 today. Never really paid attention to this variable, but will now.

Anybody ever run the Tammany Trace? I may go out there one morning this week or next to get a few miles in. Just curious about terrain, etc.

We used to go there for long runs in high school. We'd get off at that exit with the Waffle House and there's a park area where we'd start and run to the lakefront and back. 100% flat asphalt trail.

That can’t be right.

What pace were you going? I’d say the average runner (made up stats) paces between a 7:45-9:30 minute mile and cadences from 160-190.
I could be totally off but most strava profiles are somewhere in that range.

That’s what I’m thinking. ??
If anything I’d be understriding it seems by the 80, but it seems off. Pace was 10:25 for 13.1.

10:25 will get you closer to 100 but not that close.

Finally got off my arse and ran today. I don't know why it felt like I was swimming in cement. It never rained so moisture just felt heavy in the air, but supposedly dew point was only 67 degrees and temp 84. Felt a lot worse. Ok enough bitching. Gonna ice the knee and start over tomorrow.
I don't pay attention to cadence. Checked for this run, and it's 172 ave. 188max--probably when it got dark and I was high stepping on tip toes so I didn't bust arse on a root.

We had almost identical runs today.
My 14 YO niece is visiting and I’m going to take her on a trail run tomorrow. Should be fun.

What watch do y’all use? I’ve got about a 6 year old Garmin that I was thinking about upgrading from. It’s dependable, but has not advanced metrics or ability to connect to phone, etc
Posted on 7/30/18 at 9:25 pm to hogbody
Last watch I had was a Garmin 405 years ago but I've heard good things about the 235

Garmin fenix 3hr. It’s big, but my reason for picking this one was that the ultra trac mode gives 50 hours of battery life while tracking distance, course etc.

Do any of you that run around your neighborhood, certainly I'm not the only one that wants to end your run at the house.
What I mean is this: Say you are going to run a half on a Saturday afternoon. You take off running, you're at 10 miles, 3.1 to go. I'll be damned if I run back towards my house, and still have like a mile and a half to go. I'll circle around some random neighborhood, so that I can finish the 13.1 right as I get back to the house.

I have the 230 and have no need to upgrade.
