I just got back from vacation and have decided now Is the time to get serious about diet and exercise. I am starting a low card/Keto type diet. Was also hoping to incorporate some gym time into the mix. Realistically 3-4 times. On low carb am i better off focusing more on weightlifting or cardio? My goal is to trim down and burn off as much fat and then potentially add a little bulk.

In the past when consistent i would do 20-45 mins of cardio and 45-1 of weight training. I usually focused on hitting 2 body parts once per week....chest and tris, back and his, etc

If this worked for you in the past, I would go back to it. I will say if you want to "get serious" about diet and exercise, you need to think about some goals outside of dropping weight. You technically don't need exercise to drop weight, so what would you like to do athletically? Get into body building? Race a 5K? Eclipse the 300 pound mark on bench press?

I don't think low carb affects your exercise choice at least at this point. I know there's a poster in the marathon thread doing low carb/Keto and training for a marathon. He'd have some good advice. General thoughts are that long distance running and Keto don't mesh, but I don't know what the science says regarding that specific subject.

Diet will affect weight loss the most.

Lifting will build the most muscle and cardio will benefit cardio health. Both lifting and cardio will beneficially affect fat loss, but not as much as diet.

I'd utilize all 3 variables if I were you.

The best diet is the diet you can substain for a while. It’s not a diet it’s a lifestyle. I was 30-40 lbs overweight and it took me a a while to get it through my head that this wasn’t a 30 day or 21 day or 3 month fix, this was a lifestyle change. Since then I’ve been at my lower weight and have kept it off for 6 years.

Good luck and what helps me stay focused is following some smart guys on Facebook or Instagram. Not the BS guys trying to sell you products

Layne Norton
JC Deen
James Smith

Those guys are legit and I’ve learned a ton from them.

This is one of James Smiths videos I go to all the time. He’s blunt and to the point. Lol

Burn more calories in which you consume on a daily basis and you will lose weight. There's no secret. One method is not better than the other. Incorporate HITT training and weights 3-4 days a week and you will lose body fat while adding muscle.

Yep. It sounds so simple and people have to complicate it. Find something you enjoy doing and do it 3-4 times a week to break a sweat

Consume less calories than you burn and get enough protein. It’s that easy

Unless you think you can stay on Keto long term I’d do something else. I did exactly what you are wanting to do last year by using Avatar Nutition. I didn’t just lose weight. I changed my body composition by losing fat and gaining muscle. I never had to be miserable by eliminating an entire food group.

Intermittent fasting seems to work just fine for a lot of people. I like having a 12-6 window for food and fasting the rest of the time.

Sounds pretty good. I’ll google it. Any other spots to get more info on Avatar Nutrition

I’m hoping to be be able to drop some weight in a decent time then slowly bring in more fruits and carbs over time. I figure a good workout regime will help maintain after the initial cut.

Am i wrong in this thought process?

Also thanks for all the insight in comments above.

Keto is great for overall health and dropping weight, but once you look to at muscle you will need to add carbs for muscle growth and recovery.

Keto is a good thing to cycle through but just isn't long term sustainable if you are looking for size and performance.

She does the 12-6 window? I saw some results doing 12-8, but I have no problem eating dinner at 6.

If it's numbers on the scale that you're concerned with, I'd stick with cardio and diet. Weight training can actually add weight but good weight ie muscle but like I said, if it's numbers on the scale, I'd stick to diet and cardio.

actually it is true

if you want to be bigger stronger and faster

your body will tap into glycogen storage and carbs are needed to recovery and muscle growth

It is absolutely not true that if you want "long term size and performance" that keto isn't appropriate.

Note: I'm not saying your alternative methods don't ALSO work.

bro come on

you can't depend on loading up on that much fat

even athletes who do keto still consume well over 100g of carbs a day bc their body won't come out of ketosis

it is a great diet for general health

but not optimal for performance
