In October 2019 I completed a 30 day challenge I started which was 100 strict pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 air squats and a 3 mile run everyday. Prior to that I did just the calisthenics movements for all of June 2019 but failed to complete because I hurt my back on the 2nd to last day. The results were pretty good in October, but could have been better had I eaten better and didn’t drink. October is a hard month to give up good food and drinking, especially with LSU rolling like they were. I lost 9lbs however.

On Sunday I started a new challenge. I will be substituting the 3 mile run with 100 burpees a day, something that LSU777 suggested. The goal is to shed body fat and gain speed all around. I will still be trying to run 8-10 miles a week, as I am doing a Spartan super in May.

My workouts have looked like this:

20 rounds of:
5 Pull ups
10 push ups
15 air squats
5 burpees

So far, 3 days in, the workouts have been pretty brutal. They have all taken anywhere between 40-45 min to complete. Adding the burpee is a game changer. My heart rate immediately skyrockets, and it’s hard to catch my breath. Last go round, I could do the calisthenics portion pretty quickly, with very little rest towards the end. It will be interesting to see if my body adapts as well with the added burpee.

I am starting this thread to help keep me accountable and also for anyone who may be interested in doing something like this. I am taking daily pictures and will try to do a better job of a full update at the end. Something I didn’t do a good job of last October. Unless I get hurt, I will finish this one. Starting weight was 193 and hope to get down to at least 182. I am 5' 10" FYI.

Day 4: 39:37 Start to finish. Pretty sure I was seeing stars by the end. This workout is brutal.

Awesome man! Just extend it out until April 4th. My goal is 30 days worth. One day of rest when I feel like I really need it since March is 31 days. The final tally should be:

3000 Pull Ups
6000 Push Ups
9000 Air Squats
3000 Burpees

If I wanted to do this at home and don’t have a pull up bar, what could I substitute it with? I’m interested in trying this routine

Some type of row. Like a body weight table row or barbell row. Not sure what you have at home.

I bought a heavier duty behind the door pull up bar a while back that works great when I am in a pinch. I think it was $40.

Day 5: 37:47

Paced myself in the beginning much more which equates to a better time without really trying. The burpees really gas me. Once my heart rate is up, it’s hard to control. Interested to see how my body will adapt.

The first 2 days I only got through 10 rounds each. I underestimated how awful my cardio was lol.

42:42 today. I forced myself to slow down today. Was feeling kind of sore, especially in the chest area. I don’t think it’s a good idea to go all out every day anyway.

After thinking about it, there’s really no right way, or some program I’m trying to follow. Just trying to get through it without getting injured and making some solid progress.

Day 7: 34:38

Did the workout around 1130 AM and had nothing in my system. I felt like doing it fasted helped. I definitely felt like I had more in the tank for longer. But I also didn’t go as hard as I could. At this point, I’m thinking a sub 30 may be possible this month, but it will be a stretch.

I bet if you skipped every fourth day for recovery you would probably get better results.

Your routine is inspiring and you have my respect. I may try this after I establish OMAD for 3 weeks.

Day 8: 43:51

Woke up and enjoyed the weather this morning. The wind was blowing pretty good which was perfect. Did my workout at the calisthenics set up in City Park. Forced myself to take 1 min rest between rounds. I needed a “rest” day. Had pizza last night and could definitely feel it weighing on me. Nonetheless, got it done!

Lol...with doing 10 pushups per round already. That’s tough. I would rather add 5 more pushups to the set of ten and trade burpees for shin hops with a jump clap. Plus shin hops will destroy your abs

Day 9: 37:44

Went hard the first 10 rounds and coasted through the rest. Good strategy I think. I was gassed at the end. I’m definitely feeling the soreness is my chest. But it’s manageable. I’m making sure I stretch out really good before and after each session.

Day 11: 34:44

Started methodically with intent to take it easy. Around round 10 my time was looking decent. Around round 15 I decided to push. Finished the day with pretty good time. I did the workout outside today and I definitely feel that helped to get some Vitamin D. Quads are a little sore but overall feeling ok.

Day 12: 31:43

I had a great rhythm today for the first 15 rounds. Felt like I made some progress and was able to go at the same speed for a lot longer. Resulted in my crushing my previous speed record by almost 3 minutes. After today, I feel like sub 30 min may be possible.
