Maintenance after Keto

Hey all,
For those of you who have been successful with Keto and also maintaining your weight after Keto, what have you done?
I’m confident I can lose the weight I want to with Keto and am trying to come up with a plan for afterwards. I would like to allow myself to “splurge” on the weekends without taking a step back. Have any of you been successful with low carb during the week and “cheating” on the weekends?

Why does there need to be an "after keto"? I can tell you by my experience and countless others that if you are looking at "diets" as a temporary struggle and not a lifestyle change you are setting yourself up to fail.
If you want to keep weight off you need to burn as many calories as you consume. It really is that simple.

Eh I have to disagree to an extent. You’re basically saying don’t do Keto if you can’t stick with it forever. I know I can’t and don’t want to do Keto forever but I also know I can do it for a short period and lose a ton of weight.

So you've done it before?

What are you considering a step back?

My understanding of keto is that it takes up to 2 weeks to enter "ketosis" so your splurges on the weekends will make it so you never enter "ketosis". However, you may still lose weight based on CICO.
I did keto for 30 days prior to Thanksgiving. I lost 10 pounds really quick and then plateaued over the last 2 weeks. I'm pretty sure it was mostly water weight I lost quickly.
I'm now bulking again and heavier than I was when I started keto. I'm going to cut again for Lent but not doing keto. I'll never give up bread and pasta again. I love gluten too much.
Side note: when you reintroduce your body to carbs again be prepared to fart a lot. I was a farting machine for about 10 days after I quit keto!

Yes I’ve been successful with Keto in the past but never have had a plan after Keto and ended up falling back into old habits. Just wondering if anyone here has lost significant weight with Keto and then kept it off afterwards. What did you do afterwards?
I feel as though I personally need a plan in order to be successful.

That's not what he said. He said it's a lifestyle change. Maybe keto isn't for you if you don't want that lifestyle. For me I eat what I want which is very healthy and just burn alot.

The point isn't that keto does or does not work. The point is this: when you reach your goal, then what? What have you done to change your behaviors? A diet doesn't address behaviors, it restricts what you can eat.
You should really think about, honestly, what behaviors have led you to the point you're at now that you feel like you need to lose weight. Those behaviors are what you need to work on - not restricting your food choices.

If you were successful, you would not be asking these questions. You lost the weight and went right back to old behaviors. The fact that you want to "cheat" on the weekends screams to me that this isn't the right plan for you. Just my two cents.

So, I was successful for a long time. Then, I fell off the wagon hard and put a bunch back on. Here is what I can share with you about my failure.
I love beer. The trouble is when I bring beer home from the store. I have access to it everyday and drink it everyday.
Beer leads to, well Im having beer, I might as well have bread, pasta and fried food. 1 cheat day leads to weeks.
Well, I am up 10 lbs, no problem. that's a lot of water weight. I can drop that in a few weeks. Then, I don't.
The lifestyle change is real. There's no more beer at our house. The same goes for sweets. If we have it, we will eat it. Having a desert or a beer away from home is fine in moderation (once a week or month). We can go out and have a few beers, but lock it down the next day.
The goal shouldn't be lose the weight so I can have my cheat food or drink. The goal is to live a healthier life. I realize that now as I am trying to relose 28 lbs that I gained over the past 2 years. Learn from my mistakes.
