I’ve been working out there for over 2 years. It’s a great gym and I can’t put it over any more. Speak to Thomas or Darius. Speak with Jonathan or Andrew (depends on gym location you choose) and they’ll point you in the right direction.

Try Gracie United, approximately $120/mo with unlimited classes. There's 3 local gyms, South BR, Prairieville, & Port Allen, but you have access to all Gracie gyms if you travel any. Most gyms are BJJ only, but some do kickboxing, MMA, and wrestling classes as well. I go to the Ascension gym and there's 7 adult classes a week and open mat on Saturdays. There are several other BJJ gyms in BR, Mancuso's gym for example. BJJ will give you the cardio and core workout you need while teaching a fighting sport. Any kind of BJJ/grappling training is a pretty intense workout.

You train at Robbie's gym. He's good people. I train at the GU in Alexandria

I guess somebody is not a fan of bjj or GU. Sorry, not sorry if I think kickboxing or boxing isn't superior to bjj.

I’m a fan of bjj, won Grapplers Quest US Nationals in 2010. I’ve trained with Renzo Gracie, am friends with and have trained a lot with Daniel Gracie, my coaches were Tim Credeur (UFC vet and been a black belt under Rodrigo Medieros for 15 years) and Ricco Rodrigues(Only person ever to be a UFC champ, win Abu Dhabi, and win a BJJ world championship). I think BJJ is great, I think Gracie Baja affiliates who are purple belt head instructors under the tutilage of Rafael are very inferior to what Josh Mancuso can offer. I don’t train with Josh anymore, haven’t since we were purple belts together in 2010, but he is a legit black belt under Tim Credeur and has the best competitors in town and has the best all around knowledge of BJJ.

That's cool man, I'm not knocking JM's gym at all, or any other bjj gym in the area. I know people that train at many gyms, and have been to open mat to several non-GU gyms. I was just saying to the OP my opinion on training when it comes to martial arts, give bjj a try. I'd rather do that than boxing or kickboxing at a glorified spin class setting like another poster mentioned, and it's true.
Don't knock some of the GU gym owners though. A black belt runs the gym in Ascension, and a brown belt at the Plaquemine gym. If you're feeling frisky you can go catch a class or open mat at the shark tank in Ponchatoula. Not a knock on JM Modern or any other other gym's skill level, but GU has a lot of resources and instructors with a high level of skill and knowledge. I'm not gonna name drop all the black belts or MMA fighters that have trained under Professor Rafael to prove it either.

For sure man, you are correct! We’re definitely just giving your insight on your experience and I’ll agree that BJJ love is BJJ love for the most part! I am actually friendly with Rafael and did not mean to knock him.
I have 5 herniated discs between neck and back and that’s why I got out the BJJ game, I’m just a slave to triathlons now!lol But thanks for the invite and keep up the work!

I do know Josh Mancuso is supposed to be the best place for BJJ in the area
They had a big group from JM Modern Jujitsu go down to Brazil to train a week or so ago.

I went to the free class this a.m. It kicked my arse. It only lasted 30 mins but we never stopped moving. The coach is a pro boxer named Darius. Tall dude. Looks like he can really move. I asked for your friend, but he wasn’t there. They offer personal training for boxing, kick boxing and muay thai. I also asked them if they had any issues with olympic and powerlifting since that is what I do for strength training. They had no issues.

Good deal! Yeah, the cardio kickboxing classes are all real boxing and kickboxing moves you’re learning and drilling and it’s a very legit workout! When I was balls deep into jiu-jitsu training and would have to cut weight for a tournament I’d go do one of those cardio kickboxing classes and lose like 5lbs of water in hour!lol

So ya wanna be a ufc fighter huh!!
Posted on 8/3/19 at 9:27 pm to GatorPA84
Not really. I like to develop skills, but no, I don’t want to catch a high kick or flying knee intentionally.

They've started a muay thai techniques class. Wednesday at Acadian at 6:30 and Friday at 6:00 at Sherwood.

Are you in BR? I started out in BJJ in Houston when Tim would come over and roll at Travis Tooke's before his UFC days. I since bounced over to Gracie Humaita under Royler but pretty much have a job where I travel a lot so I always take my gi to new schools. If you trained at Crazy's school for a while, maybe we have rolled together. I work in O&G and always seem to be in BR or Laffy.
Posted on 8/5/19 at 8:55 pm to MWP
I’m in BR, caught for Tim when he was BR from 2005-2007, then trained BJJ with him in 2009 when he wa in Lafayette and then in 2010 when Ricco came to BR I started training with him a lot. Tim taught me a lot about fighting, good character and mental toughness shite too, but coming from a wrestling background Ricco was really able to teach me how to just smash people and put point everyone in tournies. I was his cornerman in Israel where we trained with Daniel Gracie, Renzo Gracie, Hermès Franca, etc.
