I Love Sandbags

My most recent training cycle has a ton of sandbag work, and I've never enjoyed my workouts more. Typically, you have a core movement, then your accessory work is done with a sandbag (especially the conditioning elements).
The benefits have been huge. I feel stronger in my joints and tendons than ever, and sandbags really challenge your stability. It's amazing how 135lbs in a sandbag can fricking destroy you. My forearm strength has always been a limiting factor for me, and sandbags have really helped.
Also, I'm loving how "safe" they are - I can drop a sandbag and not worry about me, my floors, etc. I may never do a barbell power clean again, I prefer the sandbag - and there's no chance of smacking my collar bone.
Favorite movement so far - shouldered sandbag walking lunges. The entire side shouldering the bag lights up, lat, serratus, obliques.
Seriously, if you haven't given sandbags a try - do it.

You can do a ton with them. Doing squats with the bag on your chest is like a front squat on steroids.
The only issue I've ever had is that I need my forearms and biceps to be really loose for cleans or I get tendon pain after. I almost exclusively use the bag after upper body including arms to try to prevent this.
Controlling dead weight that has no handles and won't work with you gives you a ton of real world strength.

How do you guys program this stuff in with regular lifting? I workout at an LA Fitness style gym but I’ve been thinking about doing more functional workouts.

I use strongman stuff mainly as accessory and cardio work.
That's in large part to force me to limit weight and emphasize lower weight for distance and time instead of as a primary movement where I'm maxing.
Strongman stuff is great for overall power, general strength and aesthetics, but is super taxing and comes with an increased injury risk.
I try to compensate by intentionally using it in ways that limit injury risk and don't overtax. Doing stuff like strongman for cardio circuits gets benefits and takes care of cardio.
On the whole, you just have to respect that it will eat into your recovery capacity. When I do it for cardio, it is my only cardio. As an accessory, you should sub for another exercise.

Link me some sandbag recommendations. I’ve only used a homemade Bulgarian sandbag

I have an Ironmind sandbag. Plain with no handles. I may try one with handles next. Couple of suggestions: try to size it for the amount of sand. A bag with a lot of empty space lets the sand slide around awkwardly and is hard to control. Also, I put the sand in zip loc bags taped with duct tape so I can add or remove as needed. A lot of work at first but the convenience is worth it. A quart bag holds about 3.5 lbs of sand.

I used to have an ironmind sandbag, but moved to Rogue. I like Rogue better. It's much more convenient to load and doesn't get weirdly off balance like Ironmind.
The Rogue sandbags, you can load them without internal bags too. The only thing is you need multiple bags at different weights if you go that route.

I love doing overhead walking lunges with them.

Yea I have the rogue strongman sand balls that replace the atlas stones.
I have 100lbs bag and love doing strong man stuff and conditioning with it. I also have homemade 50lbs bags I use for the greyskull conditioning.
My favorite circuit is
5 rounds w 60-90s rest between
100ft zercher carry with 100lbs ball
100ft overhead walk using 53lbs KBs
100ft prowler sprints
Done right it will destroy you.
