As I've gotten older I've noticed my squats haven't been as deep. Everytime I would go down my knees just didn't feel comfortable and I cheated the depth to where not quite parallel anymore. Ill never be able to go arse to grass again. I can't even do this with a weightless squat.

So I've check my ego and dramatically dropped the weight and started doing sit down box squats to retrain myself. I plan on doing this for a good while until muscle memory kicks in.

Any other suggestions for getting deeper. I use wide stance with feet out and spread my knees on the way down.

Work on hip mobility. That plus checking my ego did wonders for my squat depth.

What I learned is squatting is all about flexibility and as the poster above me said hip mobility. Also break at the knees then try to "stretch" your arse downward.

Work on mobility and keep doing those box squats. Check out supertraining06 on YouTube to make sure your getting everything you can out of box squats.

Ankle mobility. Put some 2.5s under your heels and see if that helps.

Also try knee sleeves to keep your knees warm.

How low should one go? I try to go where my arse is just slightly below my knees.

I'm aiming for parallel. I've lost over 100 pounds but I'm still obese at the moment. I would like to go lower but I'm also 38 with a torn ACL so I don't know if I really need to at my age.

Like others have said, stretch your hips and ankles for 20-30 minutes before you squat if you want to be serious about it, You can go parallel, you just don't know it.

I think most would agree anything past parallel is a good rep. I go arse to grass on every rep, even my 1rm, or I don't count it. That's just personal opinion and how I judge myself.

Your hip crease should break parallel with your knee when in the bottom of a squat

6 Mobility Exercises For An A$$-To-Grass Squat

Also, sitting at the bottom of an Asian squat for 5 minutes a day will help.

I used my couch as a guide. Once I feel my butt touch the seat I go back up.

look into "Romwod". its a monthly subscription that is a 20 min yoga session everyday that hightlights different mobility hotspots. shoulders, hips, ankles, etc... it also doubles as a great warm up before you start lifting as well.
