I indulged too much on my vacation last week so I went on a fast at 8pm on Monday. I'm going to break it at 11am today, so in an hour and a half. Is it likely that my body has gone into full Ketosis? Mind you, I have continued to go on two 30+ minutes walks daily.

It's possible. I would not very far from a restroom soon after breaking your fast. And props to your discipline.

Not that bad actually. I just understand my body. I usually take my lunch break at around 11 am. So Tuesday I did my regular routine of walking for a mile and a half. When I walk my appetite is suppressed naturally, so even if I do eat afterwords it is very light. All I did was not eat after walking and took a appetite suppressor at around 1 that lasted for the rest of the day. Repeated that again Yesterday and I was good.

I think the first symptom of being in ketosis is having bad breath. Seriously.

Less than 3 days of fasting isn't extreme. It takes commitment and mental fortitude. There's some guy who weighed over 500 lbs and he fasted for an entire year, lost 280lbs or so, and the amazing part aside from the weight loss and rejuvenation in health was his skin shrank too.

no. I over did it on vacation. I ate way too much junk. Oatmeal cookies, french fries, fried shrimp, burgers, fritters, chips and dip and gatorades everyday. That was way too much.

I can never go to bed if I'm hungry. I'm sure it's a mind set kind of thing to get over but fasting for 60 hours sounds downright miserable.

to your discipline

There are lots of positive articles about fasting occasionally.

Joe Rogan had Dom D’Agostino, Ph.D on his podcast a couple weeks ago and he shared a ton of information on fasting if anyone's interested it's a pretty cool discussion.

This is incredibly unnecessary. Two weeks ago I went out of town for 4-5 days. Tracked my calories and consistently ate and drank 1,000+ calories above my TDEE. When I returned I was about 3-4 lbs heavier on the scale than when I left.

The day after I got back I started to again eat at 500 calories below my TDEE and went back to my normal exercise routine. After 5 days I was 1 lb less than my starting weight BEFORE going on the trip.

Most of the weight you gain on vacation is water weight from shifting your diet. Fasting like that just seems highly unnecessary.

I don't think anyone was saying that fasting was the quickest way to drop weight.

True. OP likely gained 1lb at the most assuming he didn't enter into any eating contest.

Then WTF is the point of him fasting for 60 hours? Seems ridiculous.

great discussion. i love when joe has on the nutrition guys. a lot of conflicting advice from the different guests but informative.

did galpin discuss the guy who was 500 pounds and fasted for a year year? got down to 200 pounds and his excess skin shrunk as he lost weight

Fasting is good for you plus your growth hormone skyrockets when you fast.

I fast, but I don't do it for more than 16 hours on any given day during the week. Seems overboard to go over 20+
