I try to every day. 5 min around 48 degrees right now. Working down each month.

Missed one day in January and January was the most productive month of my life. Looked my best too. Helped me stay discipline in other aspects - diet, lifts, work.

I’m not saying cold plunges solved my procrastination or ADD, but it sure helped get and keep the positive momentum going. Became unrecognizable in a sense to the people around me.

I space it 3+ hours before lifting. Usually plunge at 6am then don’t lift until after 9:30. The mental clarity you feel after getting out is second to none.

From what I've seen, cryo therapy helps with weight loss by boosting metabolism. Even though it's a lot more extreme than a cold plunge, I imagine there are similar results.

Wouldn't that be a plus for anyone concerned for their fitness?

If it works, it works. I don't know why you have to be so against it.

because it doesn't work and actively does the opposite. we have studies that prove that now. I once thought it was a great thing, but I was wrong. All the studies show the opposite.

Aren’t we in a constant state of recovery to some degree? We should never take nsaids or be in a cold environment?

To be fair…not if we can avoid it lol. Certainly don’t need to be filling bath tubs or trashcans full of ice and volunteering for it

Like I have said in the past though, if you like it and it makes you feel good do it but it’s certainly not helping with fat loss and it’s certainly not optimal but if you like it do it

I could not do 8 running/lifting workouts per week before. I couldn’t do 80 mile weeks before. I couldn’t even double on the same day before.

I felt incredibly less sore in between days before tapering. Do you think I’m making shite up?

I found a study that may support what Bilbeau said:
LINK
It's a meta-analysis of multiple studies that tracked mostly endurance athletes, but also some rugby players and swimmers. It seems like ice baths can reduce DOMS and RPE in the short term but has no difference from the control group past 24h
quote:

One of the main findings of this review was that post-exercise CWI reduced DOMS and RPE immediately, but with no significant effect on DOMS and RPE at 24 and 48 h

So the one benefit it may have, like Bilbeau said, is for athletes doing doubles. That's essentially what we used it for when I ran. Certainly no real evidence that it aids fat loss or anything like bro science guys claim though.

I’m such a bitch when it comes to cold water. I can’t even take a cold shower. I don’t think I could do it
