I do a 16 hour fast 5-6 days a week. Typical feeding window is from noon-8pm.

Occasionally I’ll extend it to 18 hours or so, but generally not longer than that.

Been doing that pretty consistently for 8 months or so.

I’m probably around 12% bf and still slowly dropping. I seem to do well maintianing muscle mass and even gaining a little bit.

What I like best about IF is that the restricted eating window lets me be a little more lienient in what I eat simply because it’s harder to fit as many calories in that window. With that said, I still track what I eat fairly closely.

I’ve done two 4-day fasts in the last few months. Ketones shoot through the roof, loads of energy and I have never slept as good. Does not burn muscle as ketones provide muscle sparing effect. Multi day fasts, periodically, is the key to longevity in my opinion.

I wish I could run a 2-3 day fast.

Too weak. Need someone to push me. Every time I ask one of my friends to join me they call me insane.

Eventually I’d like to get to where I do a two day fast to start every month.

I do 16:8 now

Work your way up to it.

Try 23:1 next. Then a 48-hour fast. Longer fasts are actually easier than shorter ones.

I’ve done a few 23 hour fasts before, but not consecutively.

I do 23:1 (OMAD) daily. I've worked my way up to do 2+ day fasting.

I have recently started intermittent fasting and found it to be very beneficial with my weight loss journey. Routine has been water and black coffee in the morning with a lunch hour workout from around noon- 1:00pm. Protein shake with MCT oil after workout and then a low carb/keto friendly dinner around 6:00. Basically fasting from around 6:30pm until 1:00pm the following day.

I have found it nice to have a large but healthy dinner and the protein/mct mix after workouts has been enough to get me satisfied. I have been in ketosis for the majority of the last month and lost around 22 pounds already in the last 5-6 weeks. Started at 266, weighed 244 on Monday morning and strips show I am in pretty heavy ketosis as of yesterday afternoon.

Does anyone have any pointers that can help improve my current plan? I have found that fasted cardio/weights has been pretty easy and fatigue hasn't been a big issue. I used to be in pretty good shape and after dealing with some medical issues the last several years, I got fat.

Looks like you're on a good track since you're losing so much weight. If you start to stall, I'd look at losing the protein shake and extending your IF.

I am sure I'll stall at some point. My main concern, I guess, would be not eating/drinking anything after lifting. I am only lifting two days a week right now, due to soreness after lift days, but I still feel like I would need some protein after weights.

Sounds like you might be lifting too hard.

Why not just have your one meal for recovery after you lift?

I think it is more that I just haven't lifted in a few years and just getting back in to the swing of it.

This is more due to family life than anything. Would it be ideal to just skip the post workout shake, even after lift days and only consume calories around 6:00pm? I have just always thought that protein after weights is a must. Doing as much research as time allows.

My understanding is that as long as you’re consuming the protein, it doesn’t matter when. Maybe someone else can chime in.

From what I’ve read, there is a window in which you should get your protein, but it’s much larger than previously believed.

I believe that muscle protein synthasis has been shown to stay in an elevated state for up to 36 hours after a workout. I think it’s pretty widely accepted now that the “anabolic window” is more likely at least 24 hours instead of the 1 hour preciously believed to be true.

Average 8:15 mile.

speedy mile is 7:30.

Unless you’re talking about fasting from food. Eff that.

It’s the very definition of fasting. Breakfast = breaking your fast while sleeping.

So, to not eat breakfast is to continue your fast.

How is this even possible?

Guy was morbidly obese, so he had enough fat stores to live on for days. Well, in his case, 382 days.

The doctor who supervised Barbieri’s 382-day fast published a case report in 1973, describing not only his 276-pound weight loss—from 456 to 180 pounds—but also the many vitamins and minerals they used to keep him alive, and the fact his patient went “37 to 48 days between stools.”

Black coffee will end your fast. Metabolism kicks in to process the caffeine and stuff within the coffee. Fasting is water only.
