Blood Donation

I have been a regular blood donor for years but not until recently when my mother was in the hospital and she had to receive a unit of blood did I see how much difference it makes in a person's health. My mother was anemic and was lethargic but once she received the unit of blood, perked up significantly. This is just one incident of what blood donating can do. It makes me want to continue even more but I thought I'd post here for anyone even considering being a blood donor. United Blood Services is holding a Donate Before You Tailgate today. Blood reserves are critically low. They have lots of door prizes. I won a gift certificate to Acme Oyster House once. Lots of food and prizes. Consider doing something good today.

Every blood drive I've ever seen says this. Not that giving blood isn't a good thing, but what's the point of pushing propaganda?

And, I'm seeing more and more information suggesting it's a good idea to prevent iron-overload in men.

I would love to give blood but can't because I lived in the UK in 1995 and they still won't let me give blood. Still afraid of mad cow disease.
