BF weight scales?

Is it even worth bothering with?
My plain jane scaled died, so I'm looking for another.

I have a "smart scale" and I don't trust the readings on it at all. It seems that the readings, especially BF%, just fluctuate with my weight.
Basically, my fitness progress and the mirror seem to be telling different stories than the "smart scale" readings.
If there are good and accurate ones out there I'd like to know as well.

Don't waste your time, highly inaccurate.

Nope. The only reliable reading is the mirror

Because the amount of water you have at any time throws it off. And the amount of water in your body at any moment fluctuates like a mofo

I have a Renpho that is pretty consistent if I weight at the same time every day. Wake up, go to the bathroom, then weigh myself. It does fluctuate some, but the last 3 months of data show a high of 15.6% and a low of 15.2%, and my weight has been between 171.2 lbs and 175.4 lbs in that same time. It shows weight, BMI, Body Fat, and several other things I ignore like skeletal muscle, fat free mass, body water etc.
But if for some reason I step on it in the afternoon or evening it is obviously vastly different on the body fat %. Looking at the app, there was a day that showed 17.6%, and it was taken at night. If I filter it to just AM weighing's it isn't there.

I think when I get home this afternoon I'm going to perform an experiment. I'm going to step on the scale and get a reading. Then I'm going to grab a 50 lbs dumbbell and step on the scale again. I'm interested to see what happens.
I started resistance training about 6+ months ago. I started at about 170 lbs, but I'm currently about 177 lbs. I also recently had to tighten my belt a notch. So I've gained weight but trimmed up. And that is clear in the mirror as well. BF% at 170 was about 10.5%. Currently it says I'm at 13%. And I don't believe that at all.

Just bought an Oxiline. Had the highest rating out there. They say it’s like 2% off from an Inbody. Haven’t used it yet tho. I’ll report back

Have a Hume pod. It’s not worth it, not accurate

I performed my experiment and the results were predictable.
The scale I have is INEVIFIT. Had great reviews on Amazon talking about how accurate it is. First weighed myself normally. 179 lbs, 11.8% BF
Weighed myself again while holding 40 lbs of weights. 220 lbs and literally everything else also went up except body water.
I’m 6’2” by the way. This just tells me these things aren’t actually measuring anything.

I did a bunch of research on these and then talked to my doctor and some trainers.
The smart scales are great for measurements other than BF%. Especially the charting up and down of different measurements and are highly accurate. The patterns they show help a lot. Just weigh first thing in the morning after you pee and before you drink or eat anything.
For BF% the best things to use are your clothes and the mirror. It’s really hard to get a BF% reading without a DEXA scan.

Ehh, idk if the actual percentages are accurate but the change might be. It makes sense. At 170, you had 152# of lean mass and at 177# it’s saying you have 154. That’s a gain of 2# of muscle. That’s about right for a normal dude in 6mos

That’s the gold standard and even it isn’t always accurate

This is my personal calculator…
No abs in sight (due to bulking phase of course)….>15%
Bicep vein starts to poke out… 15%
“There’s my abs…kinda”… 12%
All 3 delt heads are clearly visible…10%
“Holy shite my arms look like a road map”… <8%
<8% doesn’t matter cause even when I get there, I won’t be there long
ETA: this is as accurate as anything you can buy yourself lol

Just got one last week and have only been able to use it twice since I was out of town. I don't know if it's accurate or not, but it told me my metabolic age was 36 (I'm 49), so I'm not mad at it.
