Which is particularly interesting since waist circumference above 40 inches is highly correlated to a lot of health problems. Looks like my fat arse needs to get some measuring tape

Measure at naval, keep tap level around the back. Keep track of that and that is likely the largest measurement around the stomach.

Where does the major discrepancy come from? A few places. For one, "vanity sizing" — where the actual size of a garment is bigger than advertised in an effort to flatter you — is not just for women anymore. Gribbin says the waist measurement in a man's pant is generally 1.5 to 2 inches larger than the stated size. (Or up to 5 inches, if you're shopping at Old Navy.)

I'm definitely not going to like the number on the tape but I need to find out the ugly truth. It will at least give me a baseline to work against though.
