I’m a big mental health kick and just listened to a great book about anxiety and panic attacks. The last chapter he recommended little changes to help with anxiety and one was take a magnesium and zing supplement

I take ZMA from NOW and like it but It has a ton of B6. Wondering if there are some better alternatives with just magnesium and zinc

Supposed to help with muscle pain and sleep and to relax.

I take zma and 1 mg of melatonin every night. I feel like they work well with each other and absolutely help me sleep and feel more rested.

If you want magnesium, you need to specify the type for the desired benefit.

For mental health, I really like Mag Threonate (often labeled as MagMind). I get amazing dreams when taking and really notice anytime I stop.

Now, if you want muscle health benefits, I find Mag Glycinate to be superior.

I’ll only use something with Mag Citrate if I want to shite myself or one of my kids is constipated.

I workout hard 6 days a week and just turned 40

My main concerns/issues I want to address is anxiety and because of my anxiety my muscles always tense up. I’ve done a lot of research and even my psychologist said people with high anxiety have lots of pains in their back and shoulders, etc.

I have bad pain below my left shoulder blade when I get bad anxiety

I take Ashwaganda and love it. Wondering if the mag and zinc would help

I’m new to Ashwaganda and I just take the tincture that I got on Amazon. I do a full tincture after dinner every night. It works well I’m just curious if other people do similar dosage and what time of day

So my next question. Since Magnesium is a muscle relaxer should I take before bed?

Yes. ZMA is recommended as a night-time dosage.

I tend to get a lot of muscle knots and tension from stress. Don't have full on panic attacks anymore, but still have a fair amount of anxiety. I take about 100 mg of Magnesium Glycinate with dinner and there's a noticeable difference in my muscle tension when doing so. I've also noticed improvement in sleep and a reduction in anxiety symptoms. My doctor just told me to watch my dosage since I'm also getting Magnesium from my diet.

ETA: A lot of my counseling friends will recommend Magnesium Glycinate for anxiety symptoms before diving into prescription meds.

Good info. Do you mind providing what you take or a link?

I've been using Doctor's Best High Absorption Magnesium. It's 100% chelated, so its high absorption. But it doesn't tend to have the laxative effects that other Magnesium formulations might. I tried Magnesium Citrate first and it blew my arse up.

Amazon link to supplement

I don't know that I would since you're getting magnesium in the ZMA as a combo supplement. You don't want to go overboard as too much magnesium can cause issues. The ZMA may take care of your issue in itself since its a combo supplement, I've never used it before though.

With that many supplements being taken, can you actually tell which ones are having an effect?

The Ashwagandha, Ginseng, HGW, Tribulus, Eleuthro Root, Hawthorn Berries and Mushroom complex are a combination for specific natural test utilization.
