I’d love to do this eventually. Going to do an Olympic tri in may. Been looking to cut down on running injuries so I’m going to add bike/swim to the mix. Iron man seems like a good bucket list item.

One of the doctors I work with did a full iron man in 2015. He trained for a full year. He would take off work when he had to do long bike rides or long runs. He would get up at 4am to do his swims. His goal was to finish in the allotted time allowed, which was 17 hours. He finished in 14 hours. And he was 63 when he did all this.

My only advice would be to take the recovery week afterward. You need to let your body heal. He came back to work that Tuesday. A few days later he was in the ER with a kidney stone. The two might not have been related but still....

I am literally getting on a flight at 7:30 the morning after for a Disney cruise out of Miami. Need to upgrade to business class soon to get leg room to stretch and stuff. Scheduling a massage or something that first day on the boat. Letting the wife handle the little one for the first day or two.

Also bought the vacation insurance just in case I can't get out of the bed the next morning (or wreck on the bike or something and end up in the hospital).

I’ve done Panama City and Lake Placid a long time ago. Now all I do is some jogging, weights, and boxing. Sometimes I sit and think about Ironman and can’t fathom how I did it. Good luck! It’s a cool experience.

I did Ironman Chattanooga 144.6 after doing a few Half Ironman races the preceding year and a half or so. Crossing the finish line and having your name called out as an Ironman is a surreal experience. Life is all about capturing such memorable moments. If it's a calling you have, answer the call and go for it.

So yeah.....an Ironman is hard, Haha. knocked it out today. Was where I wanted to be going into the run. Literally I was freaking out about how well I was doing. Then my stomach said, "nope, I dont like any of this" after the first run lap. Original goal was 12:30 when I signed up. Stretch was to break 12 (and I was on pace to do it easily). Just needed a sub 5 marathon. Easier said than done . After first 8 miles, water, Gatorade, bananas, gels, anything just didnt work in my stomach. Settled down again and finished the last 5-10k in decent condition. Now I just need a tattoo to let the world know (kidding... not happening)

IMTX? Did you caught up in the huge pelotons that were rolling along the course? People are bitching about on facebook. 112 miles is not enough to spread out 1000+ racers. Kinda of a dirty little secret in ironman. Drafting happens a lot in the full distance races

swam 1:15. Biked 5:40. Was on the way to a great bike split. I was averaging around 21 mph through the first 60 miles. Then I cut back pretty hard from what I trained at as it got hot and I was worried about the run. I was well within my goal time at that point, so felt it was best. Hit the first run lap at target pace then took a gel that was like 90 degrees from sitting in my pocket all day . For that lap, everything made me feel sick. Picked it up again on the last lap, but everything was tight and sore at that point. 12:54 was my time which I'm not happy about, but not all that upset. On my best day, I probably should be able to run a 4:30ish marathon. But poor nutrition and an upset stomach kicked that up by an hour+.

The pelatons were insane. Some bad accidents because of at least one of them. Scene below was not uncommon (several went down in this group). I'm not a fast swimmer, but plenty of strong cyclists swim slower than me. Thered be 50 at a time riding each others wheels. Half the time pulling people who I had already passed. Not a race Marshall to be seen anywhere.

That's why you don't draft in your in your aero bars.

You bastards kept me locked in The Woodlands Resort all day yesterday with the road closures.

I drank beer all day poolside to get by.

most of the route wasn't backing up traffic too bad. But that area of Gosling was pretty terrible. On my way back into town, I realized everyone was probably cursing at me

I’ve done 4 (done a full each of the past four years) and signed up for my fifth this Fall. An Ironman distance race can be daunting if you overthink it, but if you’re familiar with the half iron distance, then you can certainly do one. The most challenging part of it all is managing your time properly. Consistently going to bed early, meal prepping, tons of laundry, etc.
You don’t need to use a coach, but many function better with one. Personally, I don’t like using one.
Ironman is a corporation, and make no mistake, they’re in it to make a profit. I think that this might be my last Ironman-branded race for awhile once this one is done.

That drafting is disheartening and goes against the spirit of what Ironman use to be. Even this past April down in Galveston at the 70.3 the drafting was really noticeable. I’ve done Texas 70.3 every year and IMTX back when it was held in May and the temp hit 92 degrees. Boy that was the suck when you haven’t been training hard. But this year it seemed different in regards to that. Anyways, I feel like I’m done with Ironman branded races unless they promote what IM use to stand for. Since the Chinese corporation bought it, it’s been more about making money than putting on a great event.

Right now though my focus is set on doing the off-road Xterra series and maybe I’ll change my mind and sign up for at least Texas 70.3 again. I feel 70.3 is the perfect triathlon distance.

Im not doing another full for some time. And If also rather not do an IM brand, but NOLA 70.3 is interesting due to being back home by family and the new Waco is because my tri training club is renting a ranch and its going to be a big group thing. But theres and independent one close to me at the same time that Im leaning towards just due tobless people. Im is definitely just about attendance.

Are you with Out Rival group? Oilman is decent Half to do. There will be about 700-800 people and low key. A lot in my group are doing Waco. I'll do another IM again when my chaps get a little older and I have weekends to do long rides. Oklahoma has Redman full which a good one to do but a beast.
