Not with Out Rival, little smaller group (actually a whole lot smaller). Conroe, Im told, is a very well put together race for its size and is literally 30 minutes from my house and half the entry fee. This sport is already expensive and that all helps. NOLA is a bit cheaper too as we have family with places to stay. WACO will cost about 600 when including lodging and entry fees. But when you look at all the work I put in over 6 months, 300 bucks dofference doesnt sway me.

On another note, just got a new bike! Had a road and tri bike. As I got more aggressive on the tri bike, I realized im a bit too long in the torso for the size and needed to go up in size (54 to a 56) and get a lower stack bike (lower stack compared to reach). I am pretty much 100% training inside, so the road bike was not getting used. Sold my Cervelo R3 (only $500 less than I paid ) and hopefully offloading my felt b12 soon. Got a Felt IA 16 for 25% off. Already looks to fit better and Ive only fiddled for a few minutes. When the B12 is sold, di2 upgrade and new aero bars to hide all wires (less about aero, more about hating seeing wires). Wirks out to be cheaper than buying the IA10 that comes with di2, plus I can sell the 105 groupset that came on my bike. When upgrades are done, I'm getting a legit fit consultation from a guy in Houston. Not just a young guy that works at a bike shop. Guy tried to set me up yesterday and I could tell he was taking measurements that kind of matter on a road bike, but have no validity on tri bikes, so I just let it happen instead of wasting time discussing.

Its sad, but these toys are what keep me motivated sometimes . When I'm done, it will look like this, except different color (black/white lettering/little red) and HED wheels instead of Flo

Also familar with River Roux. Logistically, that one's not too easy for me. Not a lot of places to stay. Still driving 40 minutes to race after driving 6 hours from Houston. Used to have family with a camp there, but in middle of a divorce, so not so easy to use.

Nice bike. I started triathlon on a Felt S22 many years ago. However, I'm still not sure about electronic shifting. I've had too many people I train with tell me about their batteries going dead and being stuck in a gear. You and I are probably the same size. I'm between a 54 and 56 on a tribike.

About 4 years ago I bit the bullet and dropped the cash on a custom tribike. I figure I earned it and I'm good with that for a long time. It seems I only get on it now just to do tris. I don't do near eanough training on it which is sad. I actually do most of my training on a fixed gear bike now so maybe I should look into electronic shifting. But I do all types of riding. In houston, Tad Hughes is an independent bike fitter. Expensive but I know a few that have gone there.

Whatever works. I've gone the exact opposite. Guys I know have garmin heart rate, power hubs, etc. They always ask me, "how do you know what zone are you in?" If I'm breathing really hard, just back off a little. It sounds crazy but I don't go into races with a plan. I just like to see what is thrown at me now. This past Texas 70.3 I didn't even wear a watch or bike computer. I just wanted to go see what I could do with the thought of "just go!" However, I probably won't ever do that again.

Plan to go to Tad once I upgrade cockpits. Actually had an appointment to get measured to see what bikes worked so I wouldnt make an expensive mistake. But he called me and we talked through my setup. Said he'd feel bad taking my money and talked through good options. Rather spend 300 and get it right than buy 1000 worth of gadgets to get it to feel close to right. I literally reserved a vendor booth at the Woodlands bike swap event tomorrow. Ive got over 2k worth of crap to sell from buying stuff, then realizing I wanted simething else. Figure thats a good place. Ill end up spending more than I make though.

I personally haven’t but know some folks who have. I can ask around about what you want to know.

Did Louisville last year. Its a great race and the move to October has been critical. last year it was 70 on the bike and a front came in and cooled down to 50s on the run. Pretty much perfect. The bike course is very fair. The only complaint I have is they let cars onto the loop of the bike which was extremely dangerous. Run is pancake flat and fairly boring. Great finish area.
