I started to pick it up and feel like I notice a difference in my mood and focus throughout the day. Anyone else mediate daily? What benefits have you noticed? Any tips for a beginner?

Check out the "Waking Up" app. It's free during this coronavirus deal.

It does have a positive effect, if/when you find your mind racing and unable to focus. Try saying out loud 'I have time'

I do. I go approx 5-8 min.
My routine is take:
1. A minute to focus on breathing
2. A minute to think about what I hope to achieve in refocusing thought patterns
3. A minute to work out stress by contracting and relaxing muscles
4. A minute to actually go through how to redirect negative thought patterns into focused, positive thought patterns
5. A minute to breathe and get ready to focus and go on with the day
I do find it helps me redirect into more positive actions. Instead of getting weighed down in stress, I'm more able to focus on ways forward, actions and solutions.
My biggest tip is to pick what you want from it. I couldn't do the clear your mind, find your inner self stuff. When I replaced that with focus on redirecting thought patterns that were bad into good ones, it worked much, much better for me.

One Giant Mind is a good resource for beginners.

Yes, every day without fail.
I am on a 292 day streak as of today on the Calm app. I started w/ the Calm app probably back in 2015 or 2016 when there were less options.
It has had the largest impact on my life of anything I have ever done, even more than lifting and eating super clean. I'm a generally anxious person in general and also work in a super high stress job environment, so this allows me to control my mind.
I spend 20 min each morning on it and it allows me to think clearly and worry free throughout the entire day. If there are days I skip, I can tell a difference mid-afternoon and it is obvious I skipped.
I know this is high praise, but it has been a game changer for me and I would highly recommend giving it a shot.
