Marathon training and developed what I think in plantar fasciitis in my left foot. It’s painful but I can deal with that. My question is does it cause structural damage to the foot? And if you had it what did you do to treat it?

It’s just tissue inflammation.

yes, and it got very bad.

Purchased a set of inserts from a podiatrist and although it took some getting used too. It is now gone.

My arch wasn't getting the support it needed. FWIW!

Yes, have had it bad twice. What worked best for me was using KT tape. Instant relief. I could go on long walks and hikes again. Regardless what you do it will take time to totally heal. Good luck friend.

Get yourself a Strassburg Sock or the ortho boot that doesn’t allow your foot to flex while you sleep. Also, Oofos sandles/flip-flops are great for treatment/prevention. Don’t walk around barefoot ever, because the tendon will become inflamed again.

you carrying around any extra weight? I find issues like this usually flare up if I'm a little heavier than I should be.

Inserts were the main thing that really helped me when I had it. As a couple of other people have mentioned, dropping weight and keeping it off, and not walking around barefoot can be big too.

Never had it but several family members have. Seems like a shotgun approach works best. Inserts plus not going barefoot plus whatever works. Get some good flip flops that are made for it. Wear them every second you would otherwise be barefoot. Can't think of the brand name now, but they sell them at shoe stores and amazon etc. Kinda expensive but will be worth it if they help.

You may spend $130+ on shoes, (if you're like me that's 2 pairs), $300 on inserts, etc, but it will be worth it.

Wife even saw the chiropractor and that seemed to help as well.

Keep your calves well stretched in addition to above advice.

Thanks for the input everyone. Sadly, I can afford to drop 20 pounds. Also walk around barefooted a lot. Will get shoes and inserts and spend more time stretching.

Frozen water bottles help me. Roll your feet on the frozen water bottles as many times in the day that you can stand. Stretch your feet and heels. This was recommended to me by physical therapist. I started first thing in the morning and it helped a lot.

Had it really bad in both feet. Worked nights in the hospital and when I would finally sit to chart, I would stand up and almost hit the floor. Three things worked for me.

1. Frozen water bottle- would roll my foot on it 15min or so every day.

2. Foot stretch- I googled some plantar exercises and as dumb as I felt working out my feet, it helped.

3. I changed my shoes. Really high arches and crap shoes don’t mix.

It’s been 4 years since I have had a problem, but I can still remember that ache. Good luck!

What are some good flip flops. Have flat feet. Most of them are flat as hell.

Flip flops are exactly what you should be avoiding. They make you clench your toes slightly, worsening the problem.
