So someone mentioned doing a push-up regimen on here recently, and it reminded me of a couple years ago when I was doing the heavy volume push-ups every day program. I was doing sets every hour that I was awake and got up to the point of doing sets of 70+ and accumulating 1000+ push-ups each day.

I loved what it did to my physique, but it got weird dropping down in my office in the middle of the day to do push-ups. Now, though, with working remotely, I’m wondering why not. It did absolute wonders for my physique, but there was a point where it also seemed like the volume was hurting my actual lifts.

How should I mix-in bodyweight lifts? I’m thinking push-ups and pull-ups? Should I only do them on off days instead of every day? Should I do them on lift days as a primer but less volume? What’s everyone’s thoughts? Trying to take advantage of the work from home benefits to get some extra work in!

It’s not overly difficult. I started at sets of ~20 every hour. Then the next week I’d do 25, then 30. Then, once I got higher I’d increase by 2-3 reps per week.

If you’re awake for 17 or so hours out of the day, doing 1,000 push-ups a day isn’t that hard. It’s a set of 60 every hour. I was probably getting close to 1,500 a day before I scaled down as my tendons were starting to get really strained.

Doubtful but here is how you do it smart

Do 10 or so sets, number of reps equals 40% of current max number. Add reps or sets weekly so it increases your total number

Really want to change your physique do it with chins if you need to add size to your arms

Burpees if you need to lose fat

Go until you can complete the greyskull challenges.

At what point do you change variations? Ex: move on to feet Elevated push ups, archer push ups, ring push ups, etc. Could you mix in different sets throughout the day? I'll never be able to do 100 push ups in 2 minutes. Hell it takes me just over a second to go down and come up for one push up. If I could somehow keep that same pace at #100 as #1 I'd be close to 2 minutes already. I've given up on that one

normally i would say hit the challenges, but if you cant do it no matter what due to time, hit 75 in 2 min and a legit set of 50 without resting.

as far as mixing a matching feel free. personally i think archer push ups are kind of a waste, more of a party skill type thing.

pushup--> close grip pushups--> incline pushups--> close grip incline pushups--> ring pushups or dips

point is to get as much out of each exercise as possible before moving to the next harder progression. i.e. build muscle, tendon strength, muscle strength, intramusclular coordination, and muscle endurance.

for back

fat man row--> ring row-->chins-->ring chins-->weighted chins--> weighted ring chins

You legitimately think this guy was doing 7-10k pushups a week?

Quality of every rep and harder variations beats volume imo.

Why do you blindly believe someone was "easily" doing 10k pushups a week? Use your brain

It’s really not that hard if you work up to it. Doing it right off is something next to no one could do, but working up to it is really not that hard.

This guy worked up to doing 1,000 push-ups in 25 minutes. You don’t think someone could do 1,000 in a day?

Yes it is, which is part of the reason I don't believe you. I'm good at pushups, but doing 1,000+ a day would absolutely be hard.

And Cam Hanes son did thousands of pullups in a day and a guy can run a 2 hour marathon, etc. Doesn't mean you can or that it's not hard.

Never said I believed him. He may be lying, or he may be some pushup wunderkind.

But, the way you're constantly calling people out. Its odd. People who are as jacked and successful as you claim to be don't act this way.

Why do you give a shite? It's an anonymous message board and it's not the point of a good topic

pretty much how i feel. Do i feel OP is prolly exagerating...prolly but better ways to go about it.

not gonna lie though, i like Mingos no BS style sometimes. I am kind of like that is real life. I have gotten better about it, much better actually, but i like to call people on BS too.

I don't really. It took me 3 seconds to tell him he's full of shite, then I moved on with my day. Why do you think it's something that has to be dwelled upon?

Lol, so now it’s the wording I used that indicates whether I did it or not.

If you’re “good at push-ups”, then the only reason you’ve never done 1,000 in a day is because you’ve never tried to. If you do what I said in working up to it and start from a decent base, then in 2-3 months you’ll be able to do 1,000 in a day.

Does that make it hard? I don’t think anything that you can do in 2-3 months is hard. If you wanna argue over the semantics of what’s hard or not, be my guess. It’s not like I said I ran a 4 minute mile or benched 300.

I could do 1,000 in a day fairly easily. I could not do 10,000 in a week easily

Again, doing it from day one? Yea your tendons would be shot, and you’d get tricep cramps so bad that it’s feel like a horse kicked you in the back of the arm.

The triceps cramps, even with a ton of stretching and working your way up, were impossible to avoid all-together, but I found where I could feel them creeping on and would stop before they really raged. The tendons are what really get you. My elbows were feeling wrecked towards the end of it, hence why I stopped.

I don’t ever plan to workup to that type of volume ever again, but damn was it great for the physique. I don’t think I got all that much stronger from a lifting standpoint, hell towards the end I think it hurt me because of the volume, but from a physique standpoint I’d never looked better.

I’m hoping to maybe do the 30-50% version of this, knockout a couple hundred push-ups a day so that I get the physique benefits without hurting my lifts and/or the elbow strain.
