I think Keegan ends up pickling Cam Young and Patrick Cantlay.

Just a hunch.

No we are just watching you be a Morikawa fan boy.
I like winning. Morikawa wins in Ryder Cup more than he loses. Can’t believe I have to keep saying it, but match play is not stroke play.

Example. In the tour championship I saw a lot of Gotterup needs to be on the team. Match scorecards with Morikawa what do you get?

Morikawa wins 1 up, despite finishing 4 shots behind Gotterup.

Thats why you add a guy that finished 8th in the rankings who plays well in that format. Consistency wins a lot more than it loses in match play.

Morikawa largely finished 8th in the rankings because of his T3 and T4 at the 2024 Masters and PGA respectively.

To me, that is not the best indicator for how a player is currently playing.

When you play a fourball or foursomes match, you are half your team which means your value for the point is less than your value for a singles match.
Except team matches are 16 points and singles are 12.

So which is more important that you win? If you go 6-10 in team, you have to win, win, not tie 8 matches plus at least one tie to win the cup.

I want Morikawa on the team to play in the first 2 day matches. Because we need to at least split those. And yes at 8th I think he’s earned it given the points differential between 5th and 8th.

What is he good at? Not 2021, today. He hits fairways, he hits greens. What do you need in team format?

Scheffler
Spaun
Schauffele
henley
English
DeChambeau

--------------------------

Thomas
Griffin
Bradley
Novak
Young

Those would be my locks. The last spot is tough. I would prefer McNealy, Burns, or Cantlay over Morikawa but I think Keegan goes Morikawa.

I'll play Luke Donald for fun too...

McIlroy
MacIntyre
Fleetwood
Rose
Hojgaard
Hatton

-----------------------------

Lowry
Straka
Aberg
Hovland
Rai
Rahm

Why Novak? His FIR and GIR stats this year are pretty poor and he’s missed 8 cuts.

Cantlay is very good player in match play and I don’t think he can be left out.

Much as I wish Keegan would pick himself I don’t think he will. He’s very good in match play too.

Leaving off Jon Rahm is certainly an interesting decision

(Gonna guess you just forgot him since he’s not in the top 20 on the Euro points list)

Novak is not on this team. And in no world does Donald leave Rahm off his team.

He's been pretty strong since April with only two missed cuts and a win. I just like his game and seems to have the mental toughness. Also part of the new blood I'd rather have.

I don't have a problem with Cantlay. Didn't realize Novaks strokes gained were so low.

At this point I think he does. Every US player I've seen talk about it says he should play and he's gotten nothing but USA chants following him around at all the tournaments lately so he knows most of the fans want him to play.

No way it’s Novak.

Has to be Cantlay, Morikawa and Burns where you’re starting to split hairs.

Just don’t see Bradley playing and picking additional no experience.

Cantlay and Burns have the ability to get insanely hot putting and making birdies. Morikawa will get the nod purely from name and general consistency even though he hasn’t been “hot” with anything lately.

As valid as Bradley playing might be I just don’t think he does it due to the pressure and if he plays poorly, he will get roasted for years.

He seems too humble to take someone’s spot. The net negative is way too high.

Novak is below every other potential American pick in strokes gained the last 6 months. He is even below Bubba Watson. He is even worse when you look at the last 3 months.

I was thinking who I would pick and almost did the same thing.

Pretty sure it’s gonna be easy for the Euros:

Hovland
Aberg
Lowry
Rahm

Two of:
Straka
Fitzpatrick
N. Hojgaard

with Nicolai probably being left off

If true, that’s probably a good indicator that KB is not going to play, right?

I don't know how trustworthy Nuclear golf is, but I hope it is true. I have no problem with Keegan being on the team if he wasn't the captain already. I think the team will be their best with him focusing on Captain duties while the players focus on playing.

I think he should invite all the dudes who didn’t auto qualify and are in consideration to do a 2 day team qualifier event, at Beth page black. Let their play determine it just like in most other golf tournaments
