The last time tiger was #1 in the world was 2014. Obviously no one since then has been as dominant as Tiger was. The way Scottie has been playing had me thinking if this was the best I've seen someone play since Tiger.

Since Tigers last time at the top in May 2014, there have been 10 players reach #1 in the world.

Adam Scott - 11 weeks (total)
Rory McIlroy - 122 weeks
Jordan Spieth - 26 weeks
Jason Day - 52 weeks
Dustin Johnson - 135 weeks
Justin Thomas - 5 weeks
Justin Rose - 13 weeks
Brooks Koepka - 47 weeks
John Rahm - 52 weeks
Scottie Scheffler - 79 weeks

I didn't realize DJ spent that long at the top. He's had the most weeks at #1 since 2014, Rory has the most PGA Tour wins in that time span, and Brooks has the most majors.

I would say Scottie's current game is about as good as I've seen since Tiger, but he doesn't have the wins like Rory and DJ or the Majors like Brooks. Though 8 wins and a major over a 2 year stretch is pretty impressive.

I was going to say Koepka because he won 4 majors on his way to #1 with a wrist injury in the middle.

Pretty similar track for Rory between 2011-2014. & more impressive that he’s still up there 10 years later without winning a major.

I’d say Rory ETA: jk it’s actually Dustin Johnson

I think Rory definitely has an argument. Long time at #1, lot's of wins, but August will make 10 years since his last major win if he doesn't get one by then. He probably would have been my answer up until 2019 but he has cooled off (relatively). But his 5 year run from mid 2014-2019 was pretty impressive. Though during that same timeframe DJ's resume was pretty dang impressive.

I think deep down though every one of them except Scottie, since he's really just getting going, would take Brook's wins over theirs. Strictly speaking about that time frame.

I might be caught up in the moment but I think if you broke it down to which one of these golfers peak game is the best, not resume, Scottie would possibly be the best.

idk, if we're talking peak game, Koepka won 4 majors in 2 years. No one else has done that since Tiger.

I do agree that I think if we're talking 2014-present it's probably Rory or DJ. Both have the most weeks and the top (by a lot) and both have been consistently elite longer than anyone else.

That's true, that was a pretty incredible run. Brooks' game is built for the majors. I guess I think Scheffler because I feel like he can go out and shoot -20 over the course of a tournament no matter what the course is. Just hasn't been doing it long enough to have that distinction yet/needs more majors.

DJ has been the best since Tiger - robbed of a PGA and choked away a US Open. Also had some questionable off course issues so people dislike him. However if kept DJ stats and put a different name on it people wouldn’t question it.

I agree with this and I don’t think I am getting caught up in the moment. What he is doing now is better than prime Rory, Rahm, DJ, Spieth, Brooks, etc.

Obviously he doesn’t have a Rory, DJ, Brooks resume but his golf right now is Tiger like.

I would have said that Rory's peak was closest to Tiger, especially in 2014. DJ has probably been the most consistent. Rahm's combination of greatness and consistency was probably not far behind those two.

But what Scheffler is doing right now is the closest week-to-week to Tiger we've seen from anyone since Tiger in 2008.

Looking more into this - Rory jumped to #1 after 3 wins (2 majors) in the same month.

Since then he’s won 20 other tournaments. No majors

Back in 2014-2015, DJ was around a top 10-20 ranked golfer. He finally reached #1 in 2017.

Since 2014, he’s won 19 tournaments (22 if you count his LIV wins), including 2 majors.

During that time, he’s also been on the US team for 6 Ryder/Presidents cups, winning 5x.

He signed for $125M to join LIV as captain of 4Aces.

More wins, more majors, more $, & longer time spent as #1.
I’ll change my answer to Dustin Johnson

Tiger was #1 in the world last the week of May 11, 2014, replaced by Adam Scott. Rory then won 2 more majors after Tiger fell from that #1 spot as well as the WGC-Bridgestone in 2014, so his total is 23 wins and 2 majors compared to DJ's 19 wins and 2 majors. Even if you include DJ's LIV wins, Rory still has more since Tiger was #1 in the world.

***Rory also has 11 wins on the European circuit in that time frame compared to DJ's 8. He also has 5 Ryder Cup appearances with a 4-2-1 singles record and 16-13-4 overall record

Rory may have an edge with 23 wins compared to DJ’s 22.

DJ still has more $, more appearances & team wins in international competition, more time spent as #1, and is a Masters Champion.

More like 34 wins for Rory compared to DJ's 30. If you want to include LIV wins, you can't exclude Euro Tour wins

Why not use Ryder Cups since Rory literally can't play in the President's Cup

DJ still has more $

Oh please

EVen if you want to go down this road, I'd wager Rory still has more money than DJ even including DJ's LIV contract. Like Tiger, Rory's net worth largely doesn't come from his tour earnings

and is a Masters Champion.

yet isn't a British Open or PGA Championship winner

more time spent as #1

the only metric where DJ surpasses Rory, by a grand total of 13 weeks over almost a decade

You’re combining PGA Tour wins & Euro Tour wins. It’s 23 & 22

I'm aware. You're counting PGA Tour wins and LIV wins. They both played in Euro events. Why wouldn't you count all wins worldwide? Because it gives Rory a bigger advantage and you don't like it?

No… buddy.. you’re counting WGC & Majors as 2 wins each for Rory. 1 on PGA & 1 on Euro tour. It’s the same tournament.

He’s won 23 times compared to DJ’s 22

Ok 23 PGA Tour wins
6 wins on Euro circuit that aren't PGA
2 majors

29 total wins worldwide since May 11 2014

DJ
16 PGA Tour wins
2 LIV wins
2 wins on Euro circuit that aren't PGA
2 majors

20 total wins worldwide since May 11 2014

That make you happy?

Man… you’re still struggling. Math is hard.

It’s 23 total vs 21 total.
Rory has not won 23 PGA tournaments since 2014?

ETA: I’ll give you 1 back since I was counting one twice for DJ
