Saw a comment on here saying Louisiana was the worst golf state. So I did some researching and we really might be

Alaska only has 19 courses and they're pretty rough from the weather up there, so give them a pass.

Can't even resort to beating up on Mississippi for this one, they've got us beat.

Who might be worse? North Dakota? Vermont? Delaware? Rhode Island?

Gotta go with Louisiana because of lack of creativity.

We don’t have great topography for golf, at least in south LA. We also don’t have pretty beaches for those cool coastal courses

I think it’s overstated how bad Louisiana is, it just looks worse because we’re surrounded by some states with a bunch of fantastic courses. We have some quality golf courses here and some very good golfers that come out of them.

North Dakota

I’ve heard Bully Pulpit is cool. That may be the one state we could get close to.

Rhode Island?

They got some cool old designs on the coast.

Vermont? Delaware?

Not sure. Vermont has some nice mountains so most likely some fun designs. Delaware May have some old classic golden age designs that I’ve never heard of.

Not sure a Louisiana course could break top five of many state.

I read an article once, that Alaska was the worse state, and Louisiana was 47th.

Alaska. Then maybe Maine. Probably Louisiana after those two.

Golf.com

I remember reading that. It wasn’t just a ranking of courses, but overall golf in the state.
50. Alaska
49. Delaware
48. New Hampshire
47. Louisiana

LA is is worst golf state. Sorry Baws. TPC is the nicest ive played there and it’s equivalent to a $65 public track just about anywhere else.

LA has the nicest and coolest golfers though!

If you put a list of every states best course, Louisiana is 49th right?

Anchorage GC doesn’t look to shabby. It would be a tight race.

LAs soil is just to sandy. Especially in South LA. Hard to keep good lush grass. Factor in playing contitions with summer heat and rain. But make no mistake, I’d join a 4some with a group of LA Baws and not give a damn what the course looks like.

It's not sandy enough, that's our biggest problem. It's just silty and clay, holds water, and turns into gumbo mud with anything more than a light mist. Also, there's no natural elevation to help run off the large amounts rain we get, and it's not warm enough in the winter to evaporate moisture fast enough.

Coming from Florida, I wish Louisiana's courses were much sandier.

Most lists have it as Squire Creek or CCLA

Louisiana’s best course would probably be Missouri’s 15th and Kansas’s 12th. Neither state is bad for golf or great. Just solid.
