I'm a very novice golfer, so please excuse my ignorance. As of now, I'm playing with a pitching wedge and a 52 degree. After my last couple outings, I feel the need for a 56 or 58 degree wedge. I'm probably going to pick up a SM9 Vokey since they are on sale, but open to others as well.
When I look at the wedges though, I see all these different grinds and have no idea what I should get. Right now, I need something I can be consistent with, maybe a more generic grind so to speak and not something for specific conditions.
What should I be looking for?

TIA

Get one with the most bounce possible. IDK what that means in Vokey terms, but look for a high bounce.

Vokey has some good videos on YouTube explaining this.

M is a very versatile, all-around grind for Vokey wedges. You won't go wrong with those. 8-10 degree bounce for kind of neutral turf and higher (10-14) for softer turf and sand. See link for the explanation on the Vokey wedge grinds. I have S, M, and F grind in the 4 vokeys I carry (46, 50, 54 and 58).

I tried to do as much research as possible to find the best combination of loft/grinds/bounce for my game.

What I came away with was more indecisions than when I started.

If you want a safe bet, get a 56° with 10 or 12° of bounce and an S grind.

If you want an SM9, I'd really look at a 58° K grind. It's going to have the most bounce, widest sole and be the most forgiving for most of your shots. It's a cheat code from bunkers as well.

As a novice golfer, I'd avoid the T grind, which will be low bounce.

The F grind will likely be a higher lofted version of your current 52°. Very neutral bounce and sole width. The S grind will be similar.

For the record, I carry a 58° SM9 K grind, which I had bent to 56° to better fill my gaps. This high bounce sand wedge allows me to carry a low bounce 60° lob wedge (T grind) so that I have a wedge for any situation.

I used to carry a Vokey 56* 12D grind. It was an okay club, just didn't like the feel of Vokey and never seemed to get along with it well. Haven't carried it in two seasons now, actually sitting here looking at it in my office, might throw it back in the bag and give it another shot seeing as how my game has changed in the last two years.

Switched to Cleveland RTX Zipcore wedges, 54Mid10 (for greenside and approach shots) and 58Full12 (for sand and fluffy lies). Really liked the feel much better than the Vokeys. Cleveland makes good wedges, cheaper price, and even though there are less bounce/grind options, it actually simplifies things, and the clubs are more versatile rather than specialized.

My 52 that I'm playing with is actually a Cleveland RTX. I have no issues with it, was just thinking of trying something different. But in all fairness, If I'm comfortable with the Cleveland I might as well stick with it for a 58.

I switched out my Vokey's for the Cleveland RTX zip core this past weekend and couldn't be happier. Also, the Cleveland's are on sale right now. They were $129 at Edwin Watts.

It really is a cheat code out of bunkers. No clue why Titleist stopped making them in 56°. Bending a 58° a couple degrees strong accomplishes something similar. I lose a couple degrees of bounce, but with the high bounce already, it's still just fine.

Curious about why you bought a 58 an had it bent to 56. Do they not make a 56 in with the other specs?

Correct. The K grind is only available in 58 and 60. I wanted a high bounce 56, so that was my best option.

The guys I work with at Plugged in Golf swear by Edison. They have reviewed and played with any wedge you can name and this is what is in their bags. Course conditions vary so much. Some have firm turf, some have soft turf. I think the Edison philosophy for grinds/bounc/weight placement would be versatile and play to a variety of conditions. JMO.
Ordered mine yesterday.

I like mine.

It sort of simplifies an aspect of the game.

The misses are better on shots hit above groove 2.
There is a lot of mass behind the higher grooves.
My Mishits fly further.
