replace the ocean with Bayou St. John and you have Bayou Oaks South Course

Exactly.
You move the South to that property and grow out the rough and it’s Torrey.

Torrey has a bit more severe greens, but the layout, bunkering, and feel is identical.

Curious why so much of the course looks like the grass is burned. Lots of brown.

Not sure. May have let it dry out to speed/firm it up.

Because of the time of the year, Whistling Straits can't host the PGA anymore. I wonder if they could put it in the U.S. Open rotation?

This is not a U.S. Open quality course IMO. It isn’t in the same class as the Pinehurst No 2, Winged Foot, Shinnecock, Baltusrol or Pebble Beach.

Looks boring. Don’t see why the tour keeps having US Opens there

It’s the people’s championship. They like the course and they like to have a muni in the mix. This and Bethpage Black are the courses they choose. It’s a good enough course with the set up to host it. It’s also never in the Southern region anymore either due to heat. Prior Opens in Dallas, Oklahoma etc… have been held but they shy away from those now.

Course is boring but it delivered a great Sunday. At the end of a tournament, that's all you can really ask for or want.

I thought it was fine. Nobody ran away with it(which is what happened the last time it was at Pinehurst) and there were several players in contention all weekend. Final winning score was in line with most winning scores at the US Open.

Spyglass works be a better Open course but it doesn't have the views. They destroy Pebble in modern golf. Torrey delivered yesterday.

Fine? That's what you gave yesterday? Amazing.

Which one?

TP has never excited me either. There's a big powerline tower directly in front of a tee box, like another poster said it looks like it sprawls around an Office Space type office complex.

The only reason you can't compare Bayou Oaks South and TP is because BOSouth has NO elevation changes. Literally one of the most over rated courses I've ever played. And that's how I feel about TP. Just kind of meh.

It's super boring. 3 and 4 are ok, they're the only holes that use the canyon or ocean. Rees Jones sucks.

14 of the same par 4s, 2 ok par 3s, and that stupid pond on 18
The Lodge at Torrey Pines is nice. The Grill is good too.

(edit) What's better than a round at Torrey Pines is driving about a mile down the road towards Scripps and watching the hang gliders take off from the same/similar cliffs. IDK why that absolutely freaks me out, but it does.

There's a nude beach at the base of those cliffs with some scenery as well.

Yessir. I've run to those beaches along the beach from the LaJolla Shores Hotel. The scenery was underwhelming.

One of the few places on the Pacific Coast where there are just too many whales.
