Weather looks bad for his body.

I think he is trying too much too soon.

As much hate as Colin Montgomerie got for his comment, he wasn't wrong

Tiger is washed. He was amazing in his prime and I loved watching him play. But he needs to hang it up.

Needs to wake up. He’s done. Been done everything about his play says ….done. Not a part-time gig.

Only way for Tiger to be competitive in these majors is to play more golf tournaments. Totally different pressure when playing in a tournament than with friends

Take the year off.

Play 3 times before Masters
Play 2 before PGA
Play 1 before USOpen
Play 2 before Open.

That is 12 tournaments including the Majors.

Nicklaus only played like 15 a year after 1975 or so.

He can’t finish that many tournaments. He just need to bow out gracefully.

I think IF he wants to compete, he’s got to play tournaments.

12 might be doable considering all the injuries.

He may even have to focus on good weather and walkability.

Augusta is a tough walk, but he knows the course so well.

When he turns 50, would he consider riding in a few Champions Tour events just to post a number?

I know it’s not the PGA Tour, but it’s a way to play some tournament golf and maybe conserve the body

How many other major champions have you said this about that used their exemptions at other majors?

Knew when to slow down.

Tiger hasn’t come to grips with how much his game has changed since the accident. While nowhere near his level, I do know how much a major injury changes your game and how you approach it.

Took me years and playing in a lot of pain to learn how to swing to play the game with a lot less pain. Hitting it shorter, can’t spin it as much….no more single tournaments.

You have to realize the mind is still willing but the body can’t do it. He’s just not there yet, but he will soon.

We all do eventually.

In fairness I don't think Tiger played much more than 20 a year anyway. He was always close to the minimum obligation to the PGA.

This was my thought exactly.

Why do people only bitch about Tiger? Telling him it’s time to hang it up?

Ernie Els and John Daly are both +11 after RD1.

Nobody says anything about barring them.

I don’t get this sentiment. Tiger has been very open about his struggles to get his game and body back where it needs to be post accident. He’s got every right to be in these tournaments and I think he’s ok where the game is right now.

I agree with the earlier poster that if tiger wants to get serious about competing for one of these again he’s got to play more.

Maybe riding a few Champions events could sharpen the tournament mindset.

I think he needs to take off the rest of the year, focus on optimizing the body, and sort out how to get enough tournament reps to really compete like I know he wants to in majors.

Ever had a major injury that seriously affected your game?

I have.

He isn’t. He REALLY isn’t.

That’s because you don’t understand. Tiger himself really doesn’t. He’s never going to be able to play like he could, his body just won’t do it, it can’t. It takes years to really come to grips with that.

He can compete at Augusta, probably St. Andrews or other courses that aren’t as long but depend on a lot of course experience. Even then he’s going to have a really good week to have a chance.
