Thoughts when hitting fairway woods

I have a hard time trying to swing this club erratically. I have hit some really nice, long 5 woods when I slow down and take it easy.
But k have also hit a giant divot three inches behind the ball.
What are some drills or thoufghts you have when using these clubs?

I watched a video a few days ago about hitting fairway woods properly and the guy made a great point that I implemented and had some success with. I was putting the ball pretty far in the front of my stance and bringing my right shoulder down to create loft. That is not necessary when hitting off the deck. So I moved the ball more towards the center of my stance and set up like I would with an iron, choked up a tad and hit the ball solid and seemed to have much more control. See how it does for you.

“Low and slow” on my takeaway

Put a tee into ground where you'd normally place you ball.. leave about a a fingertip of height and try to pick the tee out of the ground with only a slight bruising on the ground..

I don't know if my experience is consistent or good mechanics per se, but I tend to hyper-focus on eliminating head movement, focus on good contact, and lastly focus on swinging through the ball. I have a bad habit of stopping my swing at contact which is deceleration and leads to a slice for me. And another thing that helps is to really focus on acceleration, rather than coming down at one fast speed.

My pre shot thought:
“I need to move up a tee.”
Then top it and wedge onto green. 2 putts, 5 net 4.
Seriously, I like what the other poster said. Don’t sway. Gather the speed gradually and swing through to target.

Swing easy. When I have issues with woods/hybrids im usually trying to kill it. Then it always surprises me how how far itll go when you just make good contact.

This is going to sound crazy but here it goes. Imagine a woman with big tit's trying to hit a ball off the deck with a 3wood. She has to hit around those big ones. So to do that she has to keep her head behind the ball and the chest has to stay quite so he arms can come through.
Crazy part act like you have huge tit's and try to hit the ball.
I was watching golf channel and that old guy had a big tittie lady hitting off the deck with 3wood. As I was watching it just came to me as she was hitting. I have never had a problem since.

My 3 wood is either an absolutely beautiful high arching dead straight ball that carries 230 and lands soft, or I top it and it goes about 100 ft and left.
Those are the only 2 options and there is absolutely no in between

I had tons of trouble hitting fairway woods for a long time. I’m not very tall and tended to jerk the club to the inside on my takeaway, resulting in getting the club in a “stuck” position. So, for me, it’s standing a little taller and closer to the ball, and concentrating on keeping the clubhead outside my hands on the takeaway. I try to make sure I make a good shoulder turn and not over swing. My 3w and 3h are two of my favorite clubs now.

"If I try to hit this, I aint hitting this"
Essentially put a really weak swing on it and let the club work.
