Taylormade Driver for control

Recently started playing golf again. Hitting a driver that I bought 20+ years ago. I didn't put too many rounds on it, but it's starting to feel like it's lost some of it's pop. Also jealous of hearing that sweet carbon/composite sound that my friends are getting off these Taylormade and Cleveland drivers
Would anyone be so kind to suggest drivers that have that new-tech distance, but don't sacrifice some control. I watched my friend hit a SIM 2 and it was cool but that ball flew dead straight no matter what you tried with it. Would like to still have some shot shape ability. Also doesn't have to be current year models -- I play seldom enough that used clubs won't be the end of the world.
Thanks to all in advance..

IF you value, or give any credence to online golf reviews, you need to consider the PING G430 Max 10K. Almost every review gives this one the win for accuracy. Not as long as others, but in general, a fairway finder.

I had a stealth 2 that was warranty replaced with a Qi10 LS head.
I couldn’t hit it. Picked up a 2 way miss for the first time in about 30 years.
Why? Because I like working the ball. Left to right, right to left, whatever depending on the situation. The Qi10 would try and correct the shot shape. I went to a fitter and got 4 hours we tried different shafts, grips, head configuration, nothing worked.
I sold it to a friend so only tries to hit his driver straight. He kills it, dead straight just about every time.
Bought a Callaway ai smoke triple diamond with an aldila ascent 50g stiff shaft, mid size grip. Hitting it better than anything I’ve had in years.
So to answer the question, if you just aim straight and hit straight I haven’t seen anything better than Taylor made clubs.
If your natural shot shape has some bend or you like to work it, get something else

Seems he wants be be able to shape shots. Doesn’t want to just hit straight bombs for some reason.

For an older model, the PING 425 LST is legend. The Titleist TSR1 also has a great rep for shot shaping and distance, and it's an older model, so you can get it at a better price.

FIFY, I had the 425, the 430 is even more forgiving. If you want a forgiving driver go Ping, if you want less forgiveness but a couple of more yards go TM, Titleist, or Callaway.

I got the Cobra LTDx LS a couple months ago and it has been fantastic. Very accurate and forgiving once I get it dialed in for the day.

anybody got any opinions on the Cobra Darkspeed X?
planning to put my current shaft into whatever clubhead I end up getting.

This is where my idiocy will shine through... The bumps or ridges or whatever they call them on top of the G430 head really distract me

Fastest ballspeed, not as forgiving as AeroJet.

I have a G425. Coming from a smooth and shiny pear shaped Titleist, the ridges and matte finish take some getting used to, but the results are undeniable.

I play the Cally AiSmoke driver. Very forgiving and excellent distance.
Today's driver are made to hit the ball straight and so are the balls.

Most people try to play one shot.
Moving it both ways on command is a big ask for most people.
Good luck.
I like my Cobra LTDx 2022.
Most of the modern heads share many characteristics.
Finding the right shaft for your swing is worthwhile.

I just finally upgraded my 2007 burner fast to a Pxg black ops driver and I can tell you it’s night and day better, and the burner was a great driver. Treated me very well once I learned better how to swing it. But the new stuff is just that much better.

This thread is the reason why you need to go get fitted. Go to some demo days and hit Taylor Made Callaway Ping and Titleist. See which one you like the best. Everyone is different which you can see on all the post.

Stealth is the easiest drive I’ve ever hit. I hit a 10 yard cut 90% of the time w only one swing thought Down and Through . Twist face technology is a game changer for me Good luck

Just curious, what driver are you using? I'd guess that you can pick any club from the last 5-10 years, and it will go further than your current one.
