Startling US Am qualifier score
Posted by AlxTgr on 7/16/19 at 9:51 am30
Pretty sure this guy is Matt Avery's caddie. Scroll down to last place here. May have to change from 2nd to first round.
How does one make two 19s in one 9? Is there some massive penalty sitch I don't know about?

I saw that one on Twitter. I can't fathom a penalty that gets you all the way there...
I'm thinking started shotgun start on 9, three put triple on 12 (his 4th hole), then pressed and hit it OB twice on 13 (his 5th hole) and then he just gave up and played with a wedge only, didn't read any putts, and still played poorly at that.
I feel really bad for his playing partners.

How does one even shoot a 194??

I'm thinking I could beat that with just a putter unless there is rough between the tee and fairway.

And to think he has an “established” 3.4 or less handicap. He’s a jackass for playing that like and I’m sure impacted his playing partners. I’d be pretty pissed in that situation.

Even in junior golf, the players know to WD if there is a high score that is messing up pace of play.
That guy shoulda WDed after the first 2 or 3 holes. That is a huge weight on his playing partners.
I hope this is some special interest story - former college golfer that got bad sick and trying to get back into golf - something like that.
Otherwise, you pull yourself from the field to benefit everyone.

No shotgun starts in USGA qualifiers

That makes the three pars in the middle of the round very questionable and disconcerting. One thing to fall apart and give up. Another to fall apart, pull it together for three pars, then fall apart again.
How has no one tracked this down and figured out the background?

Caught using a range finder or something illegal? Stroke per hole it was used?

Worst case of the shanks?

I'm seeing online saying it was really a 202, the system couldn't enter more than 19 strokes a hole.

They updated his score - he has a 25 on the front side now and 202 total.

New guess, he is left handed, someone stole his clubs the night before, and the shop only had a right handed rental set.
That or he was trying to prove a point (not sure about what) and was trying to go as high as possible.

I really want to know how this happened.

From another forum:

Current rumor is that after pars on 10 and 11 he had a bad 12th hole and decided to see what was the worst he could shoot. The scorecard has been corrected so it now shows his 202 total.

I'm a nice guy, but someone cards a 25 on a hole in the US Am where I'm trying to qualify... we may be going to Sonic at the turn.
I'll partially excuse it if he hit the green in reg and took 22 quick putts and it wasn't distracting.

They updated two holes on the front side
#2 from a 19 to a 25
#4 from a 19 to a 21
Best part is he shot a 69 on the back - Now I believe that was intentional!!
He had to be injured - or diagnosed with some horrible illness and wanted 1 last round - or was a former high lever player that is overcoming illness / injury.
Or he is making a point about an issue...

Assuming #12 was his third hole, he carded a 7...
#12 is a par 4, so he's 3 over through 3 of a 36 hole tournament, where 78 after round 1 got you over the cut line.
Not buying it.
