After what I saw this year (regardless of who's on the team and who the captain is) the team needs to practice harder, and not take a relaxed approach to the week. Needs to be all business. Leave the wives and family at home type deal.

Good luck telling your wife she's not invited to this place

I hear ya, but that's what it's going to take to win.
They can stay down the road somewhere if need be.

I played with a current tour player (inside top 50 on current fedex) on Saturday and he was disgusted at the fact a handful of the auto qualifiers looked like shite and pouted almost immediately after teeing off. He brought up an interesting idea that he thinks could be done in relative secrecy but have a mini match play event for about 24-30 of the top USA players about 6 months before the event. That would bring the list down to 12-15. Those 12-15 then have a mini stroke play event BUT its not based on your final score its based only on # of pars or better made.

He basically came up with a system where he'd have an outside shot of making the team That makes no sense other than trying to find a way for a guy a decent ways outside of top 12 can make the team.

Alternate shot, or foursomes, is a format almost never played by Americans in any setting whether it’s casual, competitive events, country club settings, etc. the pros play it maybe once a year at the Zurich…for those that play. And there’s 8 points per Ryder cup dedicated to it and you technically only need 8 golfers to play it as they are on separate days. The Europeans have a much much more sophisticated data driven approach well in advance of picking teams for both the foursomes and fourballs. So they pick players based on the data, pair them based on the data, and then they prepare like crazy. I’ve heard their players on average played the course 8 times in the weeks leading up to the event, and then also had games focused on making them perform better…stuff like 3 hole matches where the pressure is on the early holes to get a lead or not fall behind. They can then switch partners a lot and get a feel for each other. It all sounds so smart and not very difficult to accomplish. I’ve heard Brandt snedeker, the next presidents cup captain, is very data driven and so we will see his approach and if we can learn from it.

We’re screwed based on that image alone. Looks like a course where local knowledge is paramount. It will be 29 at the earliest before we have a chance to reclaim.

It’s a Robert Trent Jones course that wasn’t designed until 1995 and redesigned by Fazio. So Americans should be extremely familiar to the layout, honestly maybe moreso than the euros
