Going to San Antonio for my bachelor party and need some course recommendations. So far I've looked at: The Bandit, TPC, La Cantera, Hyatt Hill Country, Cedar Creek, The Quarry.

Any others? Out of those listed above which would you choose? I'm playing to an 8 at the moment, and my best man is about a 12, but all the rest are just "for fun" golfers. We will have around 16 guys going.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I've played LaCantera & the Quarry. I'd play the Quarry.

To many blind tee shot at the Palmer course if you haven't played before. Get a book in the proshop.

Played a lot of golf in SA (live in Austin).

Palmer Course (La Cantera) is excellent. The "just for fun" guys are going to struggle as the greens are fast, etc.

Briggs will be hard to get on, but doesn't hurt to email the guys and just ask.

Olympia Hills Golf Club is excellent as well.

Silverhorn and Alsatian are both amazing value and clubs - I'd highly recommend.

If you're willing to drive, both Landa Park and The Bandit, in New Braunfels, are absolutely excellent tracks that I think you'll love. Landa is a shorter track and it'll be very playable for the group. After Landa, you can make a quick drive to Gruene Hall, drink some beers, and look at all the fine women.

I grew up playing Briggs Ranch, my parents were members. It was a ghost town just about every time I played. Liked it better before the massive clubhouse was built. Just 3 doublewide trailers connected.

How many days are you there and do you have a van to take you everywhere? The places listed are not collectively close to each other, IE La Cantera is 30-40 min from TPC, and TPC is 30-40 min from downtown. Check out Silverhorn, Breckenridge, and the Republic. All great golf courses.

Pass hard on Hyatt - its a meh layout. Bandit is a solid hour drive from downtown. Layout is real good but I doubt its worth the drive with 16 guys and only a few are interested in golf.

Where are y’all staying?
I went to med school in San Antonio and played all of the public and semi private courses.

If y’all can afford it, stay at the JW Marriott and play TPC. Great courses.

The Palmer Course is another fun track.

You really can’t go wrong with any of the courses there as they are all fun courses. My favorite in the area is The Bandit. It’s tough so bring your A game.

Given the makeup of your group, just go to The Quarry. The front nine is just ok, but everyone, and especially the just for fun guys will get a big kick out of the back 9. It’s a short drive from Downtown and not too expensive.

Actually just played the bandit. Course and especially the greens were in great shape. However it is a little bit of a drive depending on where you are staying. The Quarry and La Cantera, the Quarry and the TPC are the others I’ve played. I would rate them in that order in terms of fun and playability. The Quarry back 9 is probably the most fun of the bunch.

The quarry is unique. The back nine is down in the old quarry itself and is a lot of fun. Fairways are bouncy and the last four holes are along the quarry wall on your right. To say some of your lies are different is an understatement.
At one point waiting on the tee of 11 or 12 I liked down in a ravine and there must have been 300 balls. I don’t think anybody can get down in there!

Good point.

Tapatio Springs is another excellent course. George Strait owns it.
