Sam Burns is leading the American Express tournament at the halfway point. He had two eagles yesterday. The tournament is played on three different courses, and I believe Sam has to play the tougher of the three, Pete Dye Stadium Course, today. The good news is this is the only course with shot tracker so you can closely follow his round. Good luck Sam.

Possible dumb question incoming, but what happens if Dunlap pulls this out? Does he get a card? Anything? Dude just fired a 60 today to take a 4 shot lead into Sunday.

He declared as an amateur when the tournament started. So he’s still an amateur regardless of what happens.

Amateurs cannot gain official status, points, etc. by playing as amateur.

He wil have to turn pro to change that.

- with the PGA Tour U and accelerated status program, he may obtain status with a win.

He doesn’t get money or points if he wins but if he declares after the victory he would have exemption thru 2026. If he waits until the season is over he would have exemption thru 2025.

The crazy thing is if he does win whoever comes in second gets first place money.

I really hope he wins with that RTR in his hair. The banter will be hilarious

This article lays out all his options for both turning pro within 30 days of event completion and remaining an amateur.

Basically, any/all exemptions he currently has based on his amateur accomplishments are only valid if he remains an amateur.

Any/all exemptions he would get by turning pro within 30 days of the event are based solely on his accomplishments by being a pro.

... and then he would probably be given additional exemptions because his presence in the filed would generate interest on all levels. The Tour is going to reward talent like his. No sponsor is going to penalize him for his accomplishments at the Amex if he decides to take advantage of earning his card early.

Found my answer on twitter

“ If he wins, he gets his PGA Tour card for 2 years like normal. So could finish up college this year, turn pro and start playing on Tour. Or turn pro Monday. ”

Just another typical LSU-Bama finish.

How much money is LIV about to throw at this kid?

I guess their field is already full though.

Does the finish on 17&18 hang around in Sam's head? Those tee shots were the worst balls he hit all weekend.

I think he seems mentally tough, but ive never met the guy.

I doubt it, the dude is pretty even keeled and super laid back the few times I have seen him at Squire. Now if this happened at a major, maybe, but lets not pretend that there isn't some pressure on a pro guy that is playing with a amateur in a pro event that can't put him away. I am sure JT was feeling it as well. Shite, JT looked like he had a corn cob stuck up his arse for most of the round. Plus, I am quite positive there was no shite talking that happened amongst SEC golfers, especially between players from these 2 schools.

It’s not.
1 open spot left on Kaymer’s team & (probably) 1 spot left on Rahm’s team.
Rumors that Rahm is already signing 1 college golfer from Tennessee (Caleb Surratt).
