I came across some deeply discounted Scotty Cameron putters at a little store that buys and sells Amazon returns and unsold inventory.

I did a quick google of the model and didn’t see anything that would lead me to believe they were fake. However, I’ve never bought a Scotty before.

Well, I posted them to sell on FB and got a message that they might be fake so I took down the listing and did some research.

I joined a FB discussion, posted detailed photos, and the consensus was it was real.

I then went to Golfwrx forum and the consensus was that it was fake.

In the meantime, I sent photos to Scotty Cameron’s custom shop. They said they’d need to see it, but that there were no red flags from the photos I sent.

Anyway, here are the photos. The side by side photo with the pure black background are stock photos from Scottys website. Opinions welcomed...

Yes, in the last picture on the shaft

Edit: must have lost some resolution when uploading pictures, but it’s there

Why did those nerds think it’s fake?

I too don’t see any red flags from the pics you posted.

I think they get joy out of pretending like they know everything and/or saying everything is fake

I pulled up old threads where they would declare something fake and it turns out to be real.

There is no doubt. Did anyone give a specific reason? What about on Facebook marketplace?

I had to drag it out of them, but it basically ended with them giving details that could be chalked up to the camera angles or lighting on the side by side photos.

Then they said if I couldn’t see the obvious differences then there wasn’t much else they could say

I'm certainly no expert but the finish looks different (could just be lighting/camera). The milling looks solid but the pictures are a little on the small side. Maybe you could weigh it?

Yeah, I was told to weigh it, but don’t have an exact enough scale available.

And yes, the finish difference is due to lighting.

Looks good to me, but I would call Titleist or email them the serial numbers for verification.

Years ago, I picked up a suspect Ping G2 driver because of the shaft that was in it and I called Ping and they said it was a Tour head and prototype shaft and they knew what player they sent it to.

They asked me to return it which I did and they sent me a new Ping Driver and some other goodies.

I gave them the serial number but they won’t authenticate it unless it’s in their shop.

I’ve read some fakes have real serial numbers

Looks fake to me. The 3 cherry bombs on the face heel look smaller and the text looks off everywhere.

You can tie a rock to a stick. If that puts the ball in the hole for you the best, who cares what it is?

I’ve never looked in another players bag to see if their clubs were real or fake.

Oh I agree, I grew up playing clones when all the other kids on the Junior Circuit were playing the real thing. That’s not really the concern here.

In this case, I bought 2 and was trying to sell 1 of them.

I don’t want to try and pass off a fake when someone is expecting a real Scotty and paying $300+ for it.

I think you’re right.

Oh well, you live and learn.

Hope this thread helps someone who buys clubs from a 3rd party not make the same mistake.

Looks real to me, once you take into account the camera angles.

The only pic that made me really hesitate thinking it was real is the overhead picture of the putter sight...the stock photo looks to have a bit of an inversion at the toe while your photo doesn't. Could easily be camera angles but it's the only pic I couldn't figure out how the camera angle may have impacted the difference..

Look Scotty Cameron's weights that you buy directly from him do not weigh what they say they do. Trust me. I thought somebody was lying when they told me. So weighing the putter won't matter. Call him and get the serial number confirmed.

Call Titleist and check the serial number.
