Olympic golf took a huge step forward today.
Best player in the world won it and was emotional on the podium, you could tell it meant a lot to Scottie and everyone that competed.
Great to see.

Agreed. I’m hoping this gets us a little closer to a team format.
Riviera in 2028 will be a lot of fun.

Modified Ryder cup format with qualifying maybe to get it to a 8 team field. With the Olympics covering 2 weeks, should be able to fit it in barring weather.
By modified, 1 alternate shot, 1 best ball, 1 individual with teams of 4, everyone plays.

The challenge is probably logistics. Having one course host both men’s and women’s stroke play is already a heavy lift. I imagine throwing in any format that requires additional play would make things difficult.

Unpopular report. Clark beats Morikawa by 5

IF the Olympic Golf competition continues to get great players like Rose, Schauffele, and Sheffler winning Gold medals, I could see the stature of the event becoming a major or really close to it.
They did a great job this week.

Yea that was just a straight up good golf tournament. Would like some Ryder Cup style play added to it as well.

I know it’s not for most people, but I would love a mixed event of some sort.

They should do two competitions for both the men and women like the do gymnastics on two courses over both weekends. Team and individual. No reason they can’t pull that off on two courses and they can swap the men and woman on the second weekend for variety and logistics.

Should we do a separate thread for the women’s golf or is this fine?
Either way, Boutier off to an early lead in her home country.

What trash making them start on Wednesday. I’m guessing that’s because the games end Saturday?

Morikawa is one of the easiest to like golfers out there. Why don’t you like him?

I doubt the tours want to lose some great players for two full weeks.
May could squeeze a mixed team event in for one day.

Above a regular tour event, below a major. Somewhere in between there. You've got to tip the cap to a gold medal but just isn't as much as a career resume builder as a major.
