If you are just looking at the greens and approach shots, MCC is at or near the top. Overall, i think it’s better than NOCC and Money Hill right now.

I agree. I haven’t played squire but I played MCC a couple weeks ago and it was absolutely plush. It’s hard to say overall though because I don’t play all the private courses that often except the one on the list that I’m a member of. Hard to make a judgment. I think the reality is that all of the ones in the top five and MCC are great courses. They have their pros and cons, and sure they aren’t a west coast perennial powerhouse course, but they’re all pretty darn nice.

bullshite list.

Oakbourne should be #1. It’s harder than Augusta

That’s just not a reputable source lol, they have English Turn as a top 5 public. I’m also pretty sure that their prior rankings had the bluffs on it when it was closed down.

Surely you jest. First, tell me which course oakbourne would jump from that top five. Hell, they would have trouble jumping MCC to be in the top six. Second, the difficulty of the course has virtually nothing to do with the ranking. Being harder than Augusta seems like a major turn off to me.

Do you disagree with their top 5 for private courses? It seems pretty spot on to me. Add MCC into the list and then you can shuffle those six however you want with squire being number one.

I’m not knocking squire by any means, but using an iphone picture to show metairie is not really showing the thoughtfulness and amazing green complexes like these

I get different strokes for different folks, but there isn’t a course in louisiana that is a true golden age course.. My argument is that squire is on amazing land for golf (about as good as you can get in Louisiana) and that the course doesn’t necessarily live up to the potential of the land. Meanwhile, MCC is dead flat, land locked on a 90 acre property, and has 18 great holes. Squire has some great holes don’t get me wrong, but it also has some painfully average holes as well.

I'll listen to a lot of takes. Even hot takes. But when you got to here

Squires got a great front 9 but the back is nothing special, with some pretty forgettable holes.

You've lost all credibility and it makes me think you played the 9s backwards.

That green looks like shite. Who wants to play a green that’s 100 yards with a ditch in it?

And name five better publics than English Turn.

Just stop, man.

I agree with you here. I just hate the Fazio, Rees Jones (who’s an absolute disgrace) school of protecting par. I think great courses are fun and forgiving for higher handicaps, yet challenging for good players

Money Hill is about to break ground on their second 18 hole course next year. The Goodyear Trust has earmarked around $20 million for it.

Threeputt is back.

Only person I've ever seen say a biarritz looks like shite.

Also, Golf magazine ranked MCC #1 in LA this year.

Hilarious, it’s far from it, must’ve had enough new money to buy them off this year, anyone can pay off that spot to make them feel better about wasting money on a circus/happy gilmore type golf course

Isn’t threeputt good guess

Squire benefits from having such good land but Fazio is meh. MCC > Squire. It may be a hot take, but MCC does more with less. Meaning that it is literally below sea level (on dead flat land),and from top to bottom, has a way deeper collection of great golf holes compared to Squire. Squires got a great front 9 but the back is nothing special, with some pretty forgettable holes. I’m not saying Squire is not a bad course by any means, it’s just that for how good the land is, it could be better. More than anything, it’s an indictment on the Faz and how bad Louisiana golf is.

Sounds like you’re penalizing Squire Creek for being on a great piece of land. Even if the architect for MCC did a better job of utilizing the land, that doesn’t make it the better course.

Isn’t a Fazio course known to be forgiving?

Who do you all argue dumb shite like this?

MCC and squire are both great courses in a state that lacks alot of great courses. You’re never going to get everyone to agree that one is nicer than the other.

Meanwhile this site will spend a week debating which one is better when 99% of the posters aren’t playing at either one.

Probably because there's only so many threads to read and react on fixing a slice or LIV/PGA bullshite.

Yea I’d rather nit pick the nuances of Louisiana’s top five courses than talk about my putting slump any day.
