Is it suppose to replace the 3 wood or supplement it? Understand some use it off the tee and in the fairway as well. Recommendations on which brand you feel is the best, Thnx.

Just a way for the companies to make more money

It’s just a smaller, more lofted driver so it’ll be 10-20 yards shorter. It’ll be just as hard, if not harder to hit off the deck than a 3 wood. Mostly marketing unless you plan to actually replace your driver. I wouldn’t waste a spot in the bag on one.

For me, it was a 3 wood replacement. Unfortunately, the model I bought is a hook machine.

I feel likes it’s a way for the pros to have something less than driver off the tee, and then get a drop-and-stop club for the 240-250 range. They probably put them in play when they need both options for a tournament.
I don’t have any business making this kind of decision for a round so I’ll let the pros have them.
Now my next clubs will probably be one of the high launch 3 woods and then a 7 wood.

I bought the GT280 as a 3w replacement. I hit 3 wood a lot from the tee and if I have a fluffy lie and need to hit 2nd shot a long way it’s perfect. I liked the TM R7 but it was going nearly as far as my driver off the tee and was a bit harder to hit off the deck.

You can easily just buy an old late 90s/early 2000s 250cc or so driver for less than thirty dollars, I have an old callaway steelhead driver I carry sometimes if I want a smaller driver. I'm not sure why the modern mini drivers are so expensive but you can get basically the same thing from a driver made back when that was the normal size of drivers.

I love my Taylor made burner mini. I hit further than my driver because I don’t spray it all over the place

Over the years my driver has become a mini driver. Maybe even a mini gap driver.

It’s a 3 wood replacement.
It’s basically if you’re mainly hitting your 3w off the tee, it provides more forgiveness and touch more distance while also allowing you to hit off the deck as needed.
If you’re constantly hitting 3w off the deck, the mini doesn’t really fit your bag.
And to the comment that “just buy an old driver from the 90’s”, these mini drivers have all the current forgiveness and distance technology in them. Buying a 90’s Big Bertha to fill this spot would be pointless

Say it louder for those in the back.
Mini driver takes the place of 3/4 wood for me. I don't hit that sort of lofted fairway wood well off the ground, so now I don't even try. It's a tee only club for me and it's set up with a ball flight opposite of my driver.

It’s essentially a 2 wood. I bought the GT280 and am loving it. Goes far but I can also hit it well off the deck. However, success off the deck with this club is due to fast swing speed.
The other mini drivers have a much larger footprint and will be hard for most to hit off the deck as well if you are average or below swing speed. Best to use tee only. Just my 2 cents.

Same. If the hole has to have a draw because I'll run out of fairway I hit the mini.

I played the Original Callaway Big Bertha 2 wood years ago, it was the best club in my bag.
13 degrees of loft and a Titanium shaft.
Absolute rocket off the tee and the deck.

For the folks that use a 3w as a fairway finder on those tight holes because they don’t have the confidence with driver for whatever reason it will be a shorter shaft smaller head like a 3w but longer. Outside of that, I don’t see much use.
