Today I look at the TaylorMade version. It all Titanium with a ProForce shaft.

Retail is $449.00 / 11.5 & 13.5 degrees.

Those of you that play them, what is the main benefit of it ?

I assume off the tee.

But with the deeper face and no real sole relief, it looks like a player with slower swing speeds would have a tough time elevating it off the deck.

Did you remove an existing 3 wood ?

Did you replace the shaft ? It felt a little loose.

It looks like Ping and Cobra will probably bring out a version by the end of the year or February.

I have the Taylormade original one 11.5 degree. I use it as a substitute when I’m struggling off the tee with driver. My original intent was it would take over driver and 3 wood in my bag and give me a spot for another wedge.

I find it doesn’t fly as far as driver off the tee and it’s not as versatile as a wood off the deck. Basically the only purpose it serves me is I treat it as an additional driver when I’m struggling. I really wanted it to be a more versatile club for me and go Mini driver, 5 wood, 4 iron, but it just hasn’t worked out.

It’s not dead yet though

ETA: I also replaced the shaft in mine.

Several years ago Ping brought out a Rapture Titanium large headed 13 degree fairway wood.

It was expensive, but it was a piss missile that would get about 10 yards off the ground.

Adam's had a similar performing Ti fairway wood at 13.5.

I have the Slidr Mini Driver 12 degree. It’s not really worth it. I only use it maybe once a round. Only benifit is that it’s on a regular shaft and it’s easy to draw. Regular driver is x stiff and I can hit a fade or mini draw. I thought I would use it as a strong 3 wood but I hit my 1 iron too well to replace

I bought the one Taylor Made put out a few years ago. I bought it as a 3 wood replacement because I almost never hit a 3w off the turf. While I still believe in it as a concept, mine is a hook machine. Probably a me problem, but I don't hook my driver, so it's a little confusing.

I have the original Taylormade TP Burner version. If I’m playing Lost Keys or Calvert/a tight course I’ll put it in the bag over my driver. I just use it in that capacity. It’s 255-260 down the middle every time. Point and click.

My driver is an anti-left machine. It would take a pretty shite swing for me to draw it so I use the mini driver on forced draw holes or forced layup holes. You can hit up like a driver and hit a nice tight draw or hit it like a fairway wood to hit a flatter straight shot or butter cut. Pretty versatile off the tee.

Probably. I have no problem off the deck but have relatively high swing speeds.

Yes

Yes. Even the x-stiff shaft felt like a wet noodle.

It’s tempting, but currently I gave a 10.5 triple diamond from Callaway. I can hit it off the deck and don’t really see a benefit from trying to put something between the driver and 3-wood.

Love the look of the Taylor Made one though.

When I try to hit a driver on the deck I usually hook it.

I generally set up to cut it, makes it an easier strike

what if I want a mini driver at 9 or 9.5? I'd rather hit a regular old school driver than the modern lollipop drivers.

I haven't hit a Cut Shot since 1995.

I wish that I could.

There's a movement on the golf forums for folks to carry two mini drivers. An 11.5 two clicks down with a driver length shaft and a 13.5 adjusted up with a three wood shaft.

I don’t think I’ve ever read that sequence of words grouped together like that

Ive carried one for nearly 40 years. Fairway finder. Both of my double eagles used one on the approach.

When I was in college in the 80's, a friend let me try his Eye 2 1 iron. I carried it for a while as it was my best option for shortish par 4s. I sliced woods back then.

Sounds like something to try out with my fitter. Thanks.

Interesting thought but today's drivers are the most forgiving ever created and hitting fairways are certainly easier.

Is it just a visual thing with the mini drivers?

Why wouldn't you just play a 11 degree driver and an adjustable 3 or 4 wood.

I moved to 16.5 four wood from a 15 degree and I don't really see any real yardage loss , but it's easier to hit.

At this point I’m wondering where the tech barrier is.

For us old golfers, we’ve seen an incredible rise in performance as a result of equipment in the last 15 years. Much more so than the previous 30 before that.

Yes it was downwind, but I hit one 277 this week. I haven’t hit one that far in a decade, even downwind. I looked, and in 2002 John Daly was the only pro who averaged over 300 yards on drives. Now there’s a 100 (98 as of last year, but we all know there’s more now).

I’d have only asked how many people you want me to kill and are you picky about where the bodies are buried if you’d handed my current clubs to 25 year old me and said I could have them but it would come with a price.
