Is Memorial Park worth the non-resident green fee?

I usually love playing the course. I live just outside Houston and have to pay the full fee. Honestly, the rate is the same as a basic course next to my house; Black Horse. So, it's not that bad for Houston. It's high, but not outrageous.
Having said all that, it was in rough shape for a PGA and women's major course two weeks ago. Lots of weeds in the fairway and bumpy greens. I assume after working hard to have it ready for two professional events, they pull back a bit in the summer.

Thanks for the info, yea Blackhorse is way overpriced IMO. I stopped playing BH altogether, it's nowhere close to a $140 course. GCOH is much better for same rate, and IMO High Meadow clears BH for $30 cheaper.

Absolutely. High Meadow is my favorite course in Houston. It's just a bit of a hike to get there.

Yea, I love it. I live out there so it's my closest course. I'm just trying to play some others I've not played yet.

I refuse to play it.
I live in Sugarland, 25 minutes from Memorial Park and I spend enough money and pay city sales tax inside the Houston City Limits.
The whole city limits thing rubs me the wrong way.
On Blackhorse, it not near the same course 20 years ago.

That's kind of how I feel. Business in Harris County but I've gotta pay $100 more? Doesn't sound like it's worth the $143 from the comments here.

If you are going to drive that far, go a bit further and play Gus Wortham. Cheap rates for all players, not just residents. Admittedly, I have not played there in almost a year, but it's always in good shape. It's also just a very fun layout.
The one thing Gus and Memorial do that I really appreciate is separate out the cart fee for the round. It just gives some more motivation to walk when you can save $25. If you are into walking, there might not be a more walker friendly course in Houston than Gus.

it really should be harris county, not that it would help you. It is dumb bellaire, memorial, west u, ect people can't play the local rate at Memorial. Not that i am complaining keeps people already off a busy track.
The city council really jacked up that whole deal and too many people tried to get their hands in the pot on what effectively was a donation to update it.

Memorial pretty much requires you to walk. I can't remember the last time it wasn't cart path only and you'll end up walking just as much if not more with a cart

I've played Highland Pines a few times recently and love it. Great course! Also, I really like Gus as well, but it gets a bit crowded.

If you like 6 hour rounds you should check out Cypresswood.

I've played Cypresswood a lot over the years. Leaning towards just joining a private in the Northwest area and sticking there with an occasional round elsewhere.

Black Horse isn't terrible, but for the price I just as soon go play GCOH, even High Meadow is a better course for much cheaper.

I played Houston National on Saturday, afternoon tee times were wide open so I just walked up and got a 1:30 tee time. There was a group that were in the 1st Fairway that waved me through, I didn’t see anyone else on the front 9. Made the turn and caught up with a dad and his young son. They let me play through but said they were waiting on every hole and no where to go. Another twosome in front of them told me that their tee time was 11:10am. They ended up finishing just under 6 hours and I finished about 4hrs 15 minutes. Surprisingly the course actually had decent turf in the fairways and greens were not as bad as I’ve been warned about. But charging just under $100 for a 6hr round is highway robbery.
