I humbly ask the Golf Boards opinion for recommendations into joining a club in the New Orleans area. I recently moved to Metairie. Usually play about once or twice a week. Like to hit range balls, chip and putt once a week. Looking for a nice course and a good game.

Ot Ballin is on another level of Ballin from what I read. What is the initiation and monthly dues at Metairie CC?

Not quite Metro area but in Destrehan there is Cypress Lakes. For someone out of the 70047 zipcode it's like $210 a month for membership, no initiation fees. That gets you full access to the club which includes a gym. On the golf side there are no other charges to play and it includes the use of a cart. You can get an even cheaper rate if you do not include the cart plan but not sure what that rate is. If you live closer to Kenner it's not that bad of a ride at all but if you are closer to New Orleans it starts to become a little too far.

Edited to add that for an extra one time fee of $140 you can get a yearly range plan there as well.

If you are only looking for golf and not the country club stuff TPC is about 3k for a yearly membership. You get range/chipping/putting practice access too.

Metairie is literally being blown up as we speak. It’s a shell of itself. Most courses in the Nola area are absolute garbage. If i was forced to have a membership in the GNO area I’d go to TPC. It’s the only course imo worth spending that’s truly worth any type of monthly fee. Practice facility is pristine as well.

That's really not bad at all. Is there a cart fee or any fee to pay per round or is it just the 3k a year?

Yeah its 20ish for a cart and 11ish to walk 18. It may be slightly more than 3k actually now. They are raising the price after this year's Zurich. Its probably the best public golf facility in this metro area, an area that is severely lacking in quality public golf.

If by this you mean being transformed into an absolute masterpiece then yes. That course is going to be sick.

To the OP if you want a private country club experience you’ve got two options Metairie or NOCC and you’ll need to know someone there to get an invite with relatively hefty initiations and monthly charges. Otherwise, you can join Chateau, TPC or English Turn but they allow public play, which is fine if it’s what you’re looking for.

Thanks for all the insight. What about Chateau Golf & Country Club or City Park-South?

Lol. There is no such thing as a masterpiece in the GNO golf world. But, yes it’s being blown up cause it became an absolute dump. Hope they get it back to being desirable again.

City Park South is one of the most boring courses imaginable. There isn’t one notable hole that makes you want to go back and play it again. It’s always well maintained though. The entire project was a big letdown. I remember there was talk of it stealing the Zurich from TPC when it as about to open.

Thank you for outing yourself as someone that has absolutely no idea what they’re talking about.

there are some God awful takes in this thread.

To the OP, it really depends what you’re looking for.

I like bayou oaks but I don’t care about hitting range balls off mats and I don’t really work on my short game. If you just want to play it’s really nice and it’s super convenient for me.

Chateau is popular with a bunch of my friends. Reasonably priced and in fairly good shape.

TPC is the best by a huge margin if you’re concerned with practice facilities.

MCC is going through a Reno and if you have the money would be an obvious choice.

ETA: I haven’t played cypress lakes in destrehan in awhile, but if the numbers posted earlier are correct that also sounds reasonable.

I heard 4K is the number after Zurich, and they're losing quite a few pass holders over it. Could be just a rumor though.

Agree with almost everything you said. Couple things should be noted.

TPC is in Avondale.
Bayou Oaks is very bland.
Chateau has a grass range but their putting and chipping areas are not good.

I do the Weekday Pass and I think that is going from 2 to 2.6k. 4k is probably about right.

TPC is $4000 a year plus tax.

Plus $23 per round for cart fee.
