Losing distance in my wedges and it's driving me nuts.

I'm so confused right now.
Every club I hit outside of my wedges is perfectly fine. I'm pretty long off the tee and with my irons. My wedges for years have been a strong point for me.
Lately, I have just lost distance off my wedges, and nothing else, and I just don't get it.
My 56 used to be a 115 yard club. Never really hit my 60 at full strength but it was 100 if I did. For about two months now my 56 is about a 100 yard max club and I dont hit my 60 except for certain situations 40 yards or so in.
I was frustrated for about a month and so I decided it was the arrow and not the indian and went and bought new wedges. Obviously that didn't help. A month later now and i've resorted to most of the time my wedge swing being an arm swing with less lower body movement. That obviously doesn't help my distance but at least helps with accuracy.
I can try and go after it, take a normal divot, and still cant get my distance back. Completely different story with my 52 degree, it is perfectly fine, but it matches my iron set. It's like it's a baby version of the yips but with wedges.
Anybody else have something similar to this happen to them at some point? Any tips? I dont want to get lessons just for my wedges but I'm going to if it stays this way. It is killing my rounds. Sunday I was absolutely on fire with my driver and irons. I shot a 77. If I would have substituted a decent wedge player in, it would have been an even par round. So yea, I'm about to go crazy. It's to the point to where it's killing potentially really good rounds.

Maybe it’s because you know these are your scoring clubs and you’re tensing up trying to guide the club instead of free swinging?

Whenever I have a few rounds that I am missing wedges short and I do a range session to work on it I find the issue is simple. For me I am opening the club face up, I think subconsciously trying to create spin and perfection and protect against the hooded long pull that is my usual miss with a wedge.
What I have found works when i am doing this is to try and hit a baby draw with my wedges, this promotes me to stop opening the club face and swiping at the ball and gets me back to a squarer club face and more consistent ball flight.
ETA: based on the info you gave we are similar players with similar handicaps.

Sounds like you are either;
A. getting old and your swing speed has slowed down.
B. The shafts in the wedges are weak
C. the weather
D. your not trapping your wedge shots ie delofting them anymore.
E. You are not taking into account the wind, elevation and lie

Yea this is a good thought. I figure I should just go to the range and bring only those two clubs. I haven't made an effort to close the club face just because I've never really had an issue leaving the club face open. But I've never had to deal with this so I don't know how to correct it. But I'll give that a shot

I mean it could be, because I dumbed down my swing to try and salvage that part of my game some. I've tried almost rushing the shot, very little time standing over the ball so I don't think about it too much and that didn't help.

Nah. I have a pretty fast swing speed. Always have. Also, I'm not losing anything in any other club so that tells me that's not the issue.

B. The shafts in the wedges are weak
I have heavy shafts in all my clubs, 130g KBS in my irons and 120 KBS in my wedges. Pretty stout.

C. the weather
It's been hot the majority of the time I've had this issue so if anything it should technically be going a bit further.

Possibly. I've just always been able to self correct issues and my swing doesn't feel off. Wedges are never something I've done this with. Ugh.

Upwind, downwind, uphill, downhill, it dont matter, it's off. 23 years of playing and turns out that golf aint easy

If it's firm you may be bouncing the bottom of the club increasing the dynamic loft where as when the turf isn't as firm you can dig so the face can shut down.
A lot of people struggle with wedges off of firm turf.

I stopped swinging full with my wedges. Max swing is 80% with the 50 degree and roughly 75% with 54 and 58. What I have found is that they go almost just as far, but the ball flight is much lower and has a better landing angle into the green. Its made my wedges much more consistent. There is less of a chance for a shot to balloon high on me.
I would stop caring about crushing a wedge and hit the range for consistent distance with each club. Wedges do not need to be long, they are scoring clubs.
For instance, my 54 was always my 110-115 club as well. I now find that dropping a club and making an easy consistent swing with the 50 degree gets me much better results.

Losing distance in my wedges
Couple of thoughts come to mind...
1. Has your ball position unknowingly changed? If you're playing a little more forward than normal, maybe you're not compressing it as good as you used to.
2. You're flipping at impact. Wrists are breaking before contact, which adds loft to the club and decreases distance.
Be me I'd get on a monitor and find out for sure.

I’d bet anything it’s some form of this.
You’re opening the club face at impact somehow with your wedges and hitting a weaker ball because of it.
It could be due to flipping, weakening your grip, etc. But I’d still bet you’re increasing loft at impact by some way.

I agree with @GeauxTigers0107 Try moving the ball around in your stance.

quote:This is it then. I started losing a lot of swing speed around this age. I got fitted for my clubs at 34 and had a 128 swing speed. Now i can barely muster 115 just 5 years later.
I am. Up to 36 now.
Went from hitting a 56 degree around 125 to 115 now. It happens.
Just take an extra club and swing easy til you dial in the distances again.

Quite literally the male prime. Just because you are a fat lazy frick doesn't mean everyone else has to be. If you are losing speed in your mid 30s it's because you choose to.

Stance, ball position, angle of attack.
Could be a myriad of little things. Have someone watch or video your swing.

Look at the number of down votes your posts receive. That might provide a clue as to what people think of your posts. Then again, probably not.
