Here’s my idea on how they can merge and make it interesting. Follow the same format as non-American professional soccer. You have the top league (say 72 guys) that play in the top tier tour which is worth lots of money. You then have the next tour down (we will call it PGA) and there you have another number of guys that are competing and then you still have the korn ferry as the intro league. Now, if you are in the top 5 of the mid tour (pga) then you can move up to the big time and if you’re at the bottom of the big time tour, then you get demoted. The top league plays 2x per month and they can also play down to the pga but the pga cannot play up to the top league.

I’m simply asking to define win. Why does that make you angry?

In every single venture before, the league with more viewers, making more money, having more sponsors, etc is winning

So, are we saying LIV will have that this year? Or have we decided to define winning completely different, and the tour that has 10x more viewers and revenue won’t be the winner?

They have already spent over 3 billion. ROI doesn’t exist, and they don’t care

What will happen. PGA tour will still have better ratings and far better revenue, but it will be weaker than before

LIv will still hemorrhage money, have almost no viewership outside of one or two events

Yes, this weakened the Pga your. Absolutely undeniable. But LIV already had great players, and it hasn’t made a dent in becoming the tour of golf from a popularity standpoint. It’s just weakening golf as a viable product in terms of overall viewership. That isn’t an opinion but for some reason this board is the only place that gets angry in hearing that

For the pga tour to get what it wants, it needs a shite ton of money

For liv to get what it wants(to be the main golf product) it needs the pga tour.

Got it. So you can’t have even the simplest discussion on what winning is, but I’m the angry one.

MikeD, I worded that terribly. I mean the tournament’s outside of the majors will have some stupid format.

I never said you were angry. I said you were broken. I don't have an opinion on winning. I have watched exactly zero minutes of LIV and wish it never existed. I just love exposing terrible takes, and it just so happens that you have the most on this board.

LIV won't officially win until their product is actually watchable. They're going all in on the team concept sticking and the teams becoming worth what they are in other professional leagues.

The LIV vs PGA argument got closer if we look at a top 12 ryder cup style showdown

PGA - Scottie, Rory, Hovland, Cantlay, Homa, Fitzpatrick, Spieth, Justin Thomas, Hatton, Fleetwood, Morikawa, Young/Burns/Kim
LIV - Rahm, Cam Smith, DJ, Koepka, Bryson, Reed, Gooch, Oosty, Ancer, Varner, Periera, Grace

I'd still take team PGA, but it's getting closer. Biggest things LIV needs to fix is the fields still don't have much depth (especially not at 48 players) and the format/production isn't enjoyable to watch

I’m just asking why LIV has already won. I don’t think any objective person could say that

Have they gotten great players? Yes. Is the pga weaker? Absolutely yes

But liv still does not have a following at all, doesn’t have any real influx of sponsors, isn’t coming close to being in the black. They still aren’t seen at all as the golf tour. How have they won? When LIV gets players go because it’s the tour, not because they are offering them 100s of millions, then they have won

But as of right now it isn’t close.

This is at least justification for the claim. I was simply commenting on your reaction.

This is an interesting take, and one that cannot be supported. The reason is irrelevant.

This will only further drive most casual golf fans to just tune into the majors, especially if Tiger is playing. I really can’t get into LIV golf and my give a shite meter concerning all but a handful of non major PGA tournament's will be further dialed down when no big names are playing.

Tennis might be the most likely scenario. CART/IRL is probably the worst case.

LIV doesn't give a shite about any of that.

The whole point of the league is to legitimize the Saudi Arabian government to the western world.

This.

LIV needs to dump the music and the obnoxious signage everywhere.

Does Rahm move the needle for LIV ? Didn't really see him move the needle for Callaway Golf equipment.

LIV is too hard to watch and the team thing is dumb. I rather watch guys from the local club shank it all over the course in the current weekend formats than the team junk with the weird format and scoring.
