I know not a popular opinion, but I watched LIV Adelaide last night and really enjoyed it. Great crowd, atmosphere, and the players were engaging with the fans.

Yep. Rugby is also hugely popular in Australia. But it doesn’t work here. Hence, why they have many rugby tours there and don’t try much here .

I’m probably one of the few rugby / golf lovers here so I’m going to defend US Rugby:

Major League Rugby is actually growing in popularity pretty well and I believe inked a deal with ESPN. If we could get some of the athletes that don’t pan out in the NFL to give rugby a shot the US would be extremely competitive on the global scale.

TLDR: We comin

Talking about apples to Filet steak. All the guys on LIV chose money over playing the big events. Can you not see that?

Jim, once again you are free to like LIv. But you can’t gaslight is. It’s a failure. A massive one

quote:

Despite the revenue growth, LIV Golf's operating losses have also increased, reaching $394 million in 2023.
The Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) has invested heavily in LIV Golf, with total capital injections exceeding $1 billion to the UK arm alone.
Money in Sport estimates that the PIF's total investment in LIV Golf could reach $5 billion by the end of the year.

quote:

Operating losses grew from $244 million to $394 million. Overall, the losses being incurred by LIV are “piling up at a staggering rate, necessitating regular injections of new capital by the Saudi PIF.” How much? The total capital injected to LIV Golf UK topped $1.0 billion after a recent issue of new capital in December 2024. “The level of new share issues in 2024 of over $400 million implies no improvement in LIV’s 2024 financial performance (ex-USA) which won’t be filed for another 12 months,” Money in Sport wrote.

Sure. I was referring to the idiot that said this:

Good for the winner but to me golf is all about the big events, Majors and Ryder cup. LIV offers none of that

All those pro golfers made their $50 million to join LIV and play in exhibition quality tournaments in front on nobody.

so last week, it was a failure from a popularity standpoint (when they get 12k viewers on FS2)

Now they get 300k+ viewers (US & Aus) for the first round & we bring up finances to prove it’s a failure.

Looking forward to see how popular it will be in a few weeks at LIV Miami

For the money being spent on the players, and the league in general, those viewership numbers are absolutely a failure.

I’m not saying the league as a whole is a failure in the sense that they’ve gotten good players, and the whole purpose was to help the PIF relations with the US, and that has worked.

From a viewership/fan standpoint, it has been a failure so far.

They’ve been on Fox network channels for 2 events. 1 round on FOX cable

PGA Tour events regularly do a couple hundred thousand viewers when it’s not on CBS.

The biggest PGA events do 1-2M & that’s rare. Again, we’ll see how it does at LIV Miami. That’s the first real test with US viewers on FOX

So you were talking about viewers & not fans in attendance? Ok

We can talk about both

From a viewership AND fans in attendance perspective it’s a failure. From generating revenue it’s a failure

It’s fine to like things that are failures. And you can say it shouldn’t be a failure but it is

I really think John Carter was a good movie and should have been a success, but it absolutely was a failure of a movie

Only 2 events in on FOX networks & you’re still wrong.
It’s okay if that’s your opinion though. It’s okay to be wrong sometimes
