quote:Because LIV was successful in taking some great players and their lawsuit was going to do major damage to the PGA. They forced the PGA to the table and now they own the PGA. Jay can remain the figurehead and they can claim they have the majority of the board but the group with the most invested owns it. Money wins again. LIV won.
LIv did fail. How do you think today became a possibility?

Look, I know you’re in denial about your L. You’ll continue to crawfish and change your tune about your opinion on LIV and how they and the players did exactly what they wanted and came out ahead. You can say Jay wins too all you want but I bet he doesn’t last long with the players being this upset with him and the bad press. You’re welcome to try and say this is how you always felt. But we all read your posts. They’re still out there. We know where you stood. Anything you type won’t change that. It’s going to be okay. I’m glad you found a way to cope.

From a fans standpoint, there are two Ls
Those who truly care about the Saudi funding angle (I think this board had one or two)
And
Those who truly liked LIv golf. (This board had many)

Yes, still undefeated.

No, it was a pretty big failure actually.

Help us understand this opinion by defining their objective. If you could also provide a source which outlines what this merger looks like next year to confirm the objective you define failed, that would be helpful too.

I do care about the Saudi funding angle, but it won't keep me from watching the PGA. I'm not a fan of it, but it is what it is. Same way that I won't let a can I don't agree with from keeping me from drinking a beverage that I enjoy.
I do feel bad for all these LIV fans that no longer get to watch their favorite golf teams compete in no cut 54 hole events.

People calling this a LIV failure think LIV existed to implement shotgun starts and 54 hole golf tournaments.

Parts of LIV won:
The players won. The Saudis won.
As far as LIV tourneys go, they did not win. LIV events were on the CW. Their winners in the 7 events so far this season included Danny Lee and Chucky III. No one is watching them on TV and outside of Australia it seems like no one was attending them either. Maybe they’ll keep the same events, but I have a hard time believing the PIF is going to stick to those type of events now that they’re in bed with Big Jay.

A day ago most believed their (SA) goal was to gain legitimacy in sport and to "whitewash" their atrocities.
Now that they have an ownership stake in global golf, sponsorship of the PGA Tour, and a voice at the table directing the game, it's a big fat L for them. Remarkable.

Going forward, which tournaments will be the majority of the new entity? Who is the ceo or the new entity? Who controls the board of the new entity?
The only “liv” item remaining is the money funding it. Liv itself is dead as a golf product. And now we can all finally admit we didn’t actually like LIv the golf product

That answers neither question.
What was their objective?
How did they fail to achieve it?
Why did the PGA spin the narrative that their objective was to gain legitimacy through sports? And why did they give them exactly that?

Getting billions in funding and majority control of the board seems like a really good “out”

oing forward, PIF will have the exclusive right to further invest in the new entity, including a right of first refusal on any capital that may be invested in the new entity, including into the PGA TOUR, LIV Golf and DP World Tour. The PGA TOUR will appoint a majority of the Board and hold a majority voting interest in the combined entity.
You think this is a "good out" for the PGA tour? PIF now has complete control of WHO can invest in the PGA/LIV/DP.

I think the LIV events will become something like a Champions League. Small fields, 54 holes, played in places where they can make a splash - Australia, SE Asia, Saudi, and a Trump course (Doral/Bedminster/Turnbury).
PGA should go back to its old week-in-week out format, ditch the Fed Ex Cup idea. Big events draw big fields.
Less prestigious PGA events and the DP World become feeder events (pro/reg style) and inventory for TV partners.

Golf channel talking heads are squirming right now. This is awesome.
I haven’t heard “blood money” once.
