LIV 2023 format

Golf.com
They announced the 14 tournament format with relegation and promotion from the Asian tour 10 event "international series". Teams will be set and players will be locked in, unlike this year with adding new players every week.
This clears up some questions I had about what they are going to do with players that get booted once bigger names come in.
With 14 events that they will be required to play in all around the world to keep their status and team points, it seems like this is much more restrictive on the big name players schedules than being able to pick and choose 15 PGA tour events (which includes majors, WGC, and ryder cup). Obviously there is a big difference in purses which makes up for that.
It also mentions that players are expected to play in some of the asian tour events as part of it.

If that’s the case, commitment doesn’t really seem all that different. Obviously money is better but overall time spent having to golf is not that off base of the PGA.

That was all a lie about playing less and spending time with family. It was just their given talking point of the week.

This is purely about money. There is nothing wrong with that but why dress it up as something else? It’s almost insulting to the fans.

The guaranteed money is where it is at. These guys don't have to grind anymore.

Like I’ve been saying from the beginning. After these 4 year contracts are up whatever is left of LIV golf will be very similar in time, money, requirements as the current PGA tour if LIV wants to actually be profitable.
It’s fantasyland to think they could pay these huge purses and guaranteed contracts while having no advertisements/commercials and only 8 events a year.
Saudi is just making a splash and trying to relevant on the global scale. They haven’t proven they have a better model yet.

Exactly they don’t have to grind. They’re paid up front. You think those top players paid huge figures are going to keep their game sharp? No way. DJ has so much money now there’s no way his wife will notice how much is going to the Colombian flake.

Devils advocate - how is the PGA not about money?

I think the argument is that all the people that have left the PGA have given reasons like wanting more family time, and being able to control their schedule more, etc. When in reality all those seem to be about the same as the PGA.
So why don't they just say they are moving to LIV to make more money?

Because pussies would complain about it even though everyone knows that's why.

Would any of these golfers leave for LIV if the money was the same in the PGA? I don't think a single one of them would even entertain the idea.

Beginning in 2023, all 48 players in the league will be contracted to specific teams for the entirety of the season.
I think Sean Zak might be wrong about that one. Surely, it won't be the same 48 players playing in all 14 events...

Next year there will be no movement of players, according to Wednesday’s press release.
All 48 players will be stuck on their four-man teams and compete for individual and team prize money, as we’ve already seen play out this year.
That is up for interpretation IMO. All the press release said was "48 players and 12 established team franchises". That is no different than what they are doing this year, except the 12 teams/names are already established.
I just don't see them sticking with the same 48 players all year. I think golf.com got this one wrong. Guess we will wait & see.

There's team money to be split for a season long race. I guess they could divvy it up more than 4 ways, but I think the point is to have established teams. Maybe that's only 2 or 3 members of each team and the players coming up and down from the Asian tour can be moved on or off a roster more often (sort of like baseball I guess).

They're doing the same season long race in 7 events this year & Scott Vincent is on his 3rd team in as many tournaments.
I just think people are incorrectly interpreting "12 established franchises" as a set roster & I think it simply means they are sticking with the same 12 team names that were started this year: 4 Aces, Fireballs GC, & others. i.e. "established franchises"

Im almost 100% certain the plan in the have the same people of the same teams *for the most part* going forward. I wouldn't take what they are doing this year as any kind of indication of what the plan is going forward. This year is about getting tournaments off the ground and filling out the roster.

Not sure how they can count on the same four man team the whole year because of injuries and such.

I bet LIV doesn’t drug test either.
